The proposed research aims to explore and articulate the similarities and differences between business problem-solving methodologies and scientific (academic) methodologies. This is a valid and potentially insightful research area, as it can help bridge the gap between theoretical frameworks and practical applications in problem-solving.

Some key considerations for this research:

  1. Conduct a comprehensive literature review of various business problem-solving methods (e.g., Lean, Six Sigma, Agile, Design Thinking) and scientific methodologies (e.g., Scientific Method, Pereira Problem Solving).
  2. Identify the key principles, processes, and frameworks underlying these methodologies, and analyze their similarities and differences in terms of problem identification, data collection, analysis, solution generation, and implementation.
  3. Conduct semi-structured interviews or surveys with experts from both academic and business fields to gather insights on their experiences, perspectives, and best practices in applying these methodologies.
  4. Based on the findings, develop a theoretical framework or model that integrates the strengths of both business and scientific methodologies, providing a holistic approach to problem-solving in various contexts.

The proposed research is fundamental (not applied) and can be conducted as a systematic review or comparative analysis. The keywords provided (Problem-Solving Method, Scientific/Academic Methodology, Comparative Analysis, Methodological Description, Theoretical Framework) align well with the research objective.

Assuming there are no personal goals as well to be met, I believe this can be an interesting topic, and at the core of what a strategy consultant does - evidence based recommendations (combined with customized frameworks and approaches to a business problem).

#1 rated MBB & McKinsey Coach

Hi there!

I admire the perseverance.

Research Question: How can Business Problem-Solving Methods be described through the lens of Scientific (Academic) Methodologies?’ >>> this research question is too descriptive and broad from my point of view. What is it trying to test? What are the specific problem-solving methods it is referring to?

Honestly, I feel like you would benefit from feedback from a thesis supervisor. We might not be able to give you what you need.

Best,
Cristian
