Hello all,

I prepared below “professional summary” to add my resume as a first part. However, I don't want to be seen as someone from highly technical and don't want to take risk on my resume screening. On the other hand, I would like to differentiate my resume emphasizing professional background I have.

What do you think should I add or remove?

PROFESSIONAL SUMMARY

Managing high-performing teams, and fostering a culture of continuous improvement and employee growth.

It seems like you have a strong background in supply chain management within the FMCG industry, and you are now looking to transition into a career in consultancy. It's great that you want to differentiate yourself and highlight your professional experience.

To further emphasize your professional background and differentiate yourself, you can consider adding specific achievements or quantifiable results to showcase your impact in supply chain management. For example, you could mention specific cost-saving initiatives you implemented, improvements in operational efficiency, or successful project outcomes.

Additionally, you can highlight your ability to analyze data and leverage insights to drive decision-making and strategy. This will demonstrate your analytical skills and your ability to use data to inform business decisions.

Lastly, consider mentioning your ability to work cross-functionally and collaborate with different teams or stakeholders. This showcases your interpersonal skills and your ability to foster collaboration, which are valuable qualities in the consulting industry.

Overall, your professional summary provides a good foundation, but adding specific achievements, highlighting your analytical skills, and emphasizing your collaboration abilities will help differentiate your resume and make it more impactful. Good luck with your resume screening!

Hi there,

To be perfectly blunt; you're not differentiating yourself by adding this particular paragraph. It's a list of boring buzz-words that tell me nothing about you that I can't also deduct from screening your CV.

If you're going to add a paragraph, do it if you really feel like you need to give your CV a spin because someone might misinterpret your history or not be able to make sense of the different things you've done. Also, make it personal and interesting and skip the buzz-words.

Hope this helps a bit. Best of luck!

Moritz

Hi Melissa,

Q: What do you think should I add or remove?

A professional summary is not necessary in a CV for consulting. If you do want to keep it, compared to the version you shared, I would recommend the following:

  • Make it shorter
  • Add numbers

You can find a few tips on how to write a CV for consulting below:

Hi Melissa,

Personally, I advise against professional summaries.

You can say whatever you want…but as a recruiter I need to see it.

Professional summaries are generally wasted space. Every line from a prof summary is a line you cannot have in the content of your resume (company, role, brand, degree, skill, bullet point of activity done)

Show me your value….don't “tell me”

Hi Melissa, I agree with Ian's advice and will add another tactical suggestion in addition to "remove". Focus on the experience section, highlighting results from past roles that demonstrate your transferrable skills that are relevant to the position you're looking for. Hope that helps you further!

Thank you very much sharing your perspective. You are right it looks so much better without the summary..

#1 rated MBB & McKinsey Coach

Hello Melissa!

I full agree with your concern around the CV. What happens most of the time is that people with technical background struggle to ‘translate’ their experience in an easy to understand language while also communicating their skills in the best way.

But, to begin with, I wouldn't have a summary at the beginning. Consulting CVs don't really have that.

Happy to share with you a template if helpful. Feel free to reach over DMs.

Also, if you're at the start of the application process, you might want to read this as well:

Best,
Cristian

Hi Melissa, I agree here with Ian, not a big fan of professional summaries either, rather bring these points across in a powerful manner in your experience section with bullet points and use some select bolding to highlight keywords. Best of luck! Frederic
