You can use the ACR - Action Context Result format for each bullet. Which ever format you use, be consistent with each bullet. I generally prefer combing the action and context in the first part of the sentence and add the result after the semi colon.

Outside of the consistent format, most important is to be concise and clear - try to limit each bullet to max two lines . Optimal usage of space is important - if you have a lot of white space at the end of your second line, try to limit the content to one line.

Remember less is more, so avoid adding unnecessary content. Make sure you are using the key search words most relevant for the role. The recruiters are looking at too many resumes so keep it clean and easy for them to find what they are looking for.

Below are suggestions for your two projects (based on content you have provided):

  • Led development of a payment application for a global mining company, secured $1M in funding for AI-driven solution; resulted in 50% reduction in transaction clearing, 20% reduction in costs and 2% growth in cash flow
  • Managed AI analytics solutions for UK law entity, securing a £0.5m partnership; enhanced claim turnaround by 15%

For both the bullets, the context is not clear. Your first half of sentence has two actions but no context. You may want to pick one out of the two actions - “managed project” or “secured partnership” and then add some context as to why you did the action. For example, “managed AI solution to improve efficiency and quality of the platform”; then add the result in the second half of the sentence separated by the ;.

If you want to showcase both your “actions” - development/managing and securing funding/partnership skills, you can do that in either two separate bullets, or add some context to the development/managing action and move the secure funding/partnership to the results section. Whatever you do, keep the bullets concise.

Feel free to reach out if you have any specifc questions.

Hi there,

Ex-Bain here, ready to help!

In general, I would suggest to summarize as much as possible, to be consistent in the way you write and to avoid long sentences. For instance, I would never use options 2 and 3 for Project 1, they are incredibly long and articulated sentences that are difficult to read.

If I had to pick from your proposals I would go with the first ones both for Project 1 and Project 2. Those two options, indeed, present the results of your work at the end of the question, which is something that I like. Also, they are the easiest one to read, even though you could still cut some words. Exemples below:

  • Led the development of a payment application for Mining co., resulting in improved credit mangement and 2% growth in cash flow
  • Secured $1M (look out for consistency, here you used the word million and in project 2 you used the "M", I would go with the "M" for both sentences) to implement an AI-driven automation that improved transaction clearing by 50% and reduced costs by 20%

Hope this helps,
PM me if you need any help with application material preparation,
Francesca

Hi Charles,

A couple of points on what you shared and what you need for a best-in-class resume:

  • Be consistent on your writing style across bullets (start with same style, follow same structure, use similar length, etc.)
  • Be sure to cover all relevant consulting skills with your experience (i.e., problem solving, analytics, entrepreneurship, team work, leadership, results drive, functional expertise and communication skills)

Send me a message if you need help to implement all of this in your CV.

Best,

Alberto

Hi there,

Very good of you to put so much thought into this! For me, there's some clear winners:

  • Project 1: Option 1 with two bullets - easy to read with great impact. For options 2 and 3, my eyes and brain got tired before even finishing the sentence. Recruiters will feel the same and likely skip over a good experience!
  • Project 2: Option 1 is very good - easy to read with clear impact at the end. Wouldn't bother with the rest.

Make sure you have all your bullets in the same style throughout your resume.

Best of luck,
Moritz

Hi Mortiz, Thank you for your comment. Can I ask what does "bother with the rest. Make sure you have all your bullets in the same style throughout your resume." this statement mean? Thank you

Hi there, I was referring to the alternative phrasings in blue for your second experience. They're not bad but the first bullet in green reads really well! Hope that helps :)

Project 1: First option, start and highlight skills/experiences relevant in consulting, securing funding nice but not as relevant as developing.

Project 2: 3rd bullet but use active voicing!

I would probably pick first option on both.

I am assuming here that on the first one you want to highlight two different things: that you were leading the development adn that you secured funding. However, I feel that the implementation of the AI-solution is more important that securing the funding for it (I would review accordingly).

Hi Pedro, Based on your feedback I have changed the second sentence to "• Successfully implemented a $1M AI-driven automation that improved payment clearing by 50% and reduced finance operating costs by 20%". Is this in line with what you were thinking. Thank you

#1 rated MBB & McKinsey Coach

For project 1, I like the third bullet point the most.

For project 2, all are ok, but none great. You need to provide a bit more detail. Ideally go to 1.5-2 rows long in length, focus on WHAT you did, HOW and WHAT WAS THE IMPACT of it.

Best,
Cristian

Hi,

Generally I like to put the results/impact at the end of the sentence.

My take on your Project 1 points is that they can be more succinct.

All the best!

Hi Benjamin, Thank your reply. • Led development of a payment application for a global mining company; resulted in improved credit management and 2% growth in cash flow • Successfully implemented a $1M AI-driven automation that improved payment clearing by 50% and reduced finance operating costs by 20% I tried to make this more succinct by combining the sentences the feedback generally has been to not do that. How can II make them more succinct without combining the sentences. Thank you
