I once applied for the Mckinsey Consulting Fellowship Program (like a 2 day training program to help with CV and interview techniques to prepare attendees for consulting analyst application). I did the Imbellus test, but failed. I'm now graduated and just applied for the Business Analyst role again and I was told that if I completed the test within 12 months, they're going to use the old result which is the case for me. Does this mean I'm going to be rejected straight away?

Hi there,

Your best bet is to reach out to the recruiter and discuss the situation, highlight the prep progress you've made in the meantime and ask to re-take the test. They might make an exception.

Otherwise, wait until after the 12 months and then reapply.

Hi there,

You have a few options:

  1. Wait until the 12 month mark
  2. Reach out to HR/The Recruiter to ask to retake the test
  3. Cross your fingers and hope that, given your added experience, improved CV, and (hopefully) prior networking, they'll reasses your hollistic profile in a better light

Hey there,

The best approach is the following. Reach out to HR to clarify the situation.

It does not mean you have automatically failed. McKinsey events are more exclusive (especially 2-day events) than interview spots, so it could be that you ‘’failed'' relative to other candidates for the event but still considered to be a good fit for the interviews.

Fingers crossed for a positive outcome.

Kind regards,

Florian

We can only speculate here.

The real gods are sitting in the HR/recruiting department of McK.

You must discuss and reason with them to resolve this issue.

Likely.

But you can always send a professionally crafted email to a recruiter and explain that you've recently graduated, perhaps you can start from scratch?

Hope this helps,

Allen

The test is one aspect of the application and not the only one they look at. As suggested here, reach out to HR and explain your situation and ask them what the best next steps are.
