I applied for a generalist but accenture is interviewing me for a tech strategy role. I am looking for tech cases to practice. Does anyone have an idea on casebooks with Tech cases. What should i expect in the interviews?

Hi there,

I think this is an interesting question that may be relevant for many people. I would be happy to share my thoughts on it:

  • First of all, since Accenture seems to have changed the role you initially applied for, I would highly advise you to immediately reach out to the recruiter to inquire about the change and the implications it brings with it, both regarding your role and the application process.
  • In case you would actually need to work through only technology case studies - which, as I mentioned before, you should clarify immediately - I would highly advise you to search for technology case studies in PrepLounge's Case Library first.
  • Lastly, I would highly advise you to prepare with non-technology case studies as well either way, since a lot of case study question types do not significantly differ across industries.

If you would like a more detailed discussion on how to best prepare for your upcoming interviews, please don't hesitate to contact me directly.

Best,

Hagen

As others have said, I'd recommend reaching out to Accenture to understand why the role that you applied for has changed. Then in terms of preparation, the skills that you use are the same regardless of the type of case that it is. I therefore suggest that you focus on structuring the problem, interpreting graphs and solving quantitative problems.

I don't know of any resources that are tech-strategy specific - there are lots of cases in the case library which you can look at for tech-specific ones, or I have a bunch that I use in coaching and I'm sure that the other coaches do as well.

Good luck!

Hi there,

It's quite tough to find adequate tech-focused cases. That's why I created 3 :)

https://www.preplounge.com/en/management-consulting-cases/interviewer-led-mckinsey-style/advanced/mckinsey-digital-bcg-platinion-oil-gas-upstream-technology-196

https://www.preplounge.com/en/management-consulting-cases/candidate-led-usual-style/intermediate/roma-solutions-senior-expert-level-tech-case-240

https://www.preplounge.com/en/management-consulting-cases/candidate-led-usual-style/intermediate/yodaphone-195

All of these based on real-life cases and have a tech-focus.

Please feel free to reach out if you would:

a) Like more technology-based cases

b) Like to be cased in the two above (hint: They don't cover all aspects of those projects...i.e. the cases could take multiple twists and turns and test additional themes when I conduct them)

What to expect in general

You should absolutely expect cases/questions to be much more deal focused. As such, you should practice M&A/DD cases.

Furthermore, they would absolutely expect you to leverage your existing experience in your answers.

Finally, I interviewed with PwC in their Technology practice and I can tell you that it felt much less "case-y" than the pure strategy firms. As such, just be prepared to not be taken through a whole case. As an example, off the bat I was asked "How would you organize a backlog of IT enhancements". Of course, I used my judgement to not treat it like a case and just went through the classifications/process I would use and why. Make sure to read the cues here!

How to Prepare

1) Search on M&A/Acquisitions/Valuation here (already done): https://www.preplounge.com/en/management-consulting-cases?language=en&topic[]=1&topic[]=19&sort=real-case-desc&page=1&perPage=20

2) Google and casebooks are your friend. For example (https://managementconsulted.com/case-interview/case-interview-examples-master-list/)...go to the various company sections to find M&A cases

I doubt they will use strategy cases for tech strategy (they're design to screen strategy consultants, not tech specialists). I would check with them (or glassdoor) on the interview process

#1 rated MBB & McKinsey Coach

There are several casebooks available online that include cases focused on technology and strategy, including the Accenture casebook, the Wharton casebook, and the Kellogg casebook. You may also want to try searching for technology consulting casebooks on platforms such as PrepLounge.

In terms of what to expect in the interview, as you are interviewing for a technology strategy role, you may be asked to solve cases that involve evaluating different technology solutions, assessing the feasibility of implementing a new technology platform, or developing a technology roadmap for a company. You should also expect questions related to your understanding of technology trends, how you approach problem-solving, and your experience working on projects that involve technology. Be prepared to demonstrate your ability to think critically, communicate effectively, and work collaboratively with others. Good luck!
