Rescheduling is totally fine and the smart thing to do if you're not prepared. The only impact it has is if they have limited offers to hand out and positions are filled before that. But in the current situation that is highly unlikely. I personally think 1 months is a reasonable request but there's no right answer do what's best for your situation.

Honestly, there's really no harm in asking. Flag to them that other commitments have gotten in the way of your prep and you really want to be fully prepared come interview time in order to put your best foot forward.

Ask for 2 months but also flag that you're more than happy to work around their timelines.

Rescheduling has NO impact on your application or evaluation. I don't know why there is such a stigma around it.

HR in my office even told applicants one day in advance (after they were flown in, provided a hotel, had dinner with the other applicants) that it is fine to reschedule if they don't feel prepared or sick.

It happens all the time and - if you feel not prepared well - it is the smart thing to do.

Generally speaking, for large offices and firms, this is how it works:

• Consultants decide on whether you should move or not to the next round
• HR takes care of the scheduling.

So if you need to postpone your interview, you will be dealing with HR, and I can't see how it would impact the consultants' decision.

So you can reschedule without impact in your chances of success.

Exceptions are if you are dealing with 1) a very small office, 2) a boutique, 3) or in the undergrad/MBA recruiting process with more or less fixed dates (and they are processing you within a batch).

The other exception would be more related to moments where the market isn't doing well, and there's a very limited number of openings. But this is not at all the current situation.
