Key question here - which region are you recruiting in? Make sure to read economic content that is specific to your region too! 

I highly recommend newsletters, which are often short, easy to read, and summarize important information in a clear and engaging manner. If you are based in the US, Axios Macro, Axios Markets, and Robinhood Snacks are some of my favorites. FT, WSJ, and Bloomberg also all have newsletters too.

Most of the major outlets like the Financial Times offer free newsletters that you can subscribe to and which contain a sort of weekly digest of the economy.

An alternative might be to subscribe to The Economist for a month and read the weekly magazine. It’s actually an engaging read that goes beyond the economy and into other things, such as culture.

In my experience, it's not so much about being on top of everything that is going on but rather help you be more creative and business-sense driven when you solve a case.

I don't know from what geography you are from so I can't recommend anything specifically but this would be my advice: 

- have a daily look at the news (focus on 1 or 2 providers, ideally business oriented, but nothing too ‘niche') to get familiar with the main headlines

- choose maybe 1 article per day  which you read in detail (you can read while commuting or before going to sleep for example). When I was preparing, doing that really helped me be more creative in my case solving as I would use examples I'd read in the press (eg., revenue levers, cost levers).

I skim the financial times (just the headlines). It takes 2-3 minutes/day. 25% of headlines are relevant…that's great!

I also subscribe to Robinhood Snacks.

Finally, I like both the FT and The Economist podcasts.
