Hi all,

I'm looking to break into strategy consulting (dream firms are Mck & OW!) as a business analyst. i'm graduating from LSE in 2021 with a MSc in Management. I've been active in consulting groups in school and have achieved leadership positions. I am very motivated.

There are so many coaches on preplounge and I'm not sure who to pick - the truth is I've engaged a coach before who looked excellent on his listing but I didn't feel he was very good - the information was outdated and overly rigid compared to what I experienced in the actual interview and unfortunately, the feedback I received from the interview matched my intuition that his/her information was quite outdated.

I'm based in London and looking for a coach who's experienced with getting MBB offers from the London office, eur 180>/ session (I'm a student sorry!) and have experience with helping fresh graduates, not just experienced hires, enter consulting.

Hope to speak to some of you soon!

I am here to get you an offer! | Ex MBB interviewer Expert in MBB and Tier 2, Deep knowledge of EU & Middle East regions

Hello Anonymous A,
Thanks for the questions; When choosing a coach to get help, I would recommend considering 4 criteria:
1. Getting a real discussion with the coach on what are your goals (Company / office / budget / timeline) : I always have a conversation with all my candidates before booking the session to see if their need match my expertise.
2. What is their unique value proposition: what do they propose as added value services (should it be framework / exercises ...)
3. Check the Reviews of the candidates that he/she coached before
4. Follow your intuition
I would say all the coaches on the platform are very experienced on the field. It is just a question of picking the one that matches your need.
Feel free to drop me a quick message if you have any follow up questions,
Best,
Norah

Hi there,

The answer is simple: Pick me :P

Jokes aside, I'm sorry to hear about your experience and I promise you not all coaches are like that! Additionally, no one size fits all.

I actually think it's really simple to find the right coach. You just have to talk to them!

  • Find a few coaches that catch your eye.
  • Send them a message and ask about their approach and what sessions might look like.
  • Moreover, you can always ask to have a quick call before comitting to a session.
  • Finally, don't be afraid to target coaches slightly outside of your price range - many offer introductory/bundle discounts and might be willing to bring down the price given your situations.

Good luck! With a bit of research you'll find a better fit.

Hi!

I would recommend a simple but effective approach - just reach out to a coach and ask him/her to provide evidence for 10-20 recent candidates he/she has coached into MBB. If a coach really has a sizable and up to date track record, he/she should be easily able to prove it.

Cheers, Sidi

Dear A,

If I were you, I would do the following:

  1. Filter out the coaches according to the criteria which might be important to (i.e. price range, satisfaction rate, etc.)
  2. Select not more than 10 to have a deep look into – your gut feeling will tell you whom to contact, based on the first impression from the coach profile description, mentees’ reviews and results (job offers and referrals he or she helped to get)
  3. Reach out to 2-3 coaches and have a brief call to clarify all your possible questions about coaching.

Great coaches will usually:

  • Tailor coaching according to your needs
  • Establish good long-lasting relationship to you (personal fit)
  • Give you the full transparency about the coaching process
  • Show you the achieved results and provide references (mentees, whom they helped to get offers)

Bear in mind that your investment in coaching has an extremely high ROI (return on investment). If you find the right coach, who can help you to get an offer, you will be able to return your invest just within the 1st week at work based on your salary package

I hope it helps you to find the right one for you.

I am happy to help you get your offers!

Best,

André

Just use Sidi - he's a coach on preplounge.

I went to LSE as well, he helped me get an offer from McKinsey. :)

Top rated Case & PEI coach/Multiple real offers/McKinsey EM in New York /12 years recruiting experience

I second Sidi's approach - evidence speaks volumes and also I would recommend just having a 15 min conversation with the coaches you like. Everyone has a different style and personality, some are stricter than others some have a more encouraging style. A conversation will give you a strong glimpse into their style and help you see if you can learn from them.

All the best!

Look for people who worked recently at your target firms in your target geography so basically people who were at McK and OW in London ideally not more than 2 years ago as consulting firms refresh recruitment criteria frequently

In addition - ask the coach for a discounted and ideally free session to start with to ensure you will get value out of the paid sessions

Best
