If someone gets an offer at one MBB and regrettably neglected applying to one of the others, and given they have time to decide, would it be wise to try to apply via referral to one of the others, while leveraging the fact that they are going to go with the original offer if not passing?

 

 Just didn't think of applying to more than one as they focused on one process, but now thinking of another firm as their culture seems very nice. 

 

Would the recruiters be open to going from resume screen→ interview in lets say 1 month?

Hi there,

Congratulations on the offer. If you prefer the other company and have not signed the contract yet there is nothing wrong with applying to the other MBB.

If you have signed the contract…it’s up to you. Technically you still can, although it is not exactly correct with respect to the firm that made you the offer.

Hello!

That situation, that seems huge to the person who is inside of it, it´s actually super common in this world, since people apply to multiple companies. 

If you really like that other one, I would for sure apply and reach out to recruiting super candidly explaining the situation. With an offer in hand of another MBB, I am certain they will expedite the process for you. 

They actually ask in the recruiting process whether they should accelerate the process if you have other interviews of offer deadlines.

Hi there, 

congrats on the offer. I would be semi-honest with the firm giving you offer and ask for some reasonable time to decide. MBB has this flexibility. I would not say you are applying NOW for other, but I would mention you are still in process with other firms and you would like to have all options open before deciding. Only risk I see is that recruiting process can take months if starting from scratch. 

Other but not really fair way is to accept and ask to start in a few months. But is not really recommended.

Hi there,

In reality, there's nothing to stop you. You can go ahead and submit, and *maybe* the process will be fast enough.

My view? What's the real point/gain.

1) Is it really worth going through all of that again?

2) Best case scenario you'll get stressed because of timelines not matching and then you'll have a really hard decision to make

3) It's a bit dishonest overall (if you end up signing with the original company before finishing these interviews).

If you want to try though, you absolutely can!

Hi there, 

Yes, you could fast track the application. It's worth trying.

If you don't manage to fast track it, then I'd start the job with the MBB that you already had the offer from. Then in the meantime you can interview with the other, and in case you get an offer from the second one as well, you could delay the starting date by 6 months for instance. Then you could switch later on with more consulting experience under your belt.

Hey there,

I agree with Ian and Francesco.

Of course, you can, and provided you get the offer, there is not much the firm can do to stop you. Maybe you have to pay some damages, which is likely not going to be enforced anyway. In my country, the employer can demand one month of salary if you break the contract I believe.

Morally it's a different topic altogether and you have to decide for yourself what you want to do.
