Is Emory MBA good enough for MBB?

It doesn't seem like the school is a target school. Would you recommend that I take it?

I got no scholarship.

Hello!

…well it depends on your background. My MBA was ranked 35th in Financial Times when I graduated and I still got the offer from BCG to join the leadership team even skipping the consultant stage (I had 0 consulting background).

A strong business school name offsets less working experience, in that case a known/well-ranked MBA is a better option, BUT if have at least 5+ years of sound work experience with demonstrable skills that the MBB is looking for (creativity, problem solving, leadership, ability to make impact…) and you could eventually qualify for expert career track, then I would think it twice if it is worthy.

There are also alternative options to earn your MBA at prestigious business school (e.g. INSEAD) with no/fraction of cost… join as an Associate (MBA not required), then you can climb up and/or take advantage of the sponsorship offered by the MBB to the top performers

It is a complex topic, I am happy to chat with you directly if interested.

All the best,
Lucie

I would recommend a higher ranked business school if your objective is to get into MBB. Given that you are paying full price for the MBA, you would likely get better value for money in other programs in the region such as Darden or Duke, if you are focusing on the Atlanta area for the long run. Even Kenan Flagler could be a better option.

I agree with Pedro. If you have the option to get into higher ranked business schools, your chances to get into MBB may be higher. However: This does not mean that you have no chances with an Emory MBA to get into MBB. So, this clearly depends on your available options

I agree - with Emory you are not "out of the game".

Hi there,

This is indeed an interesting question which is probably relevant for quite a lot of users, so I am happy to provide my perspective on it:

  • Generally speaking, since Emory does not rank well in any meaningful educational ranking (e.g. rank 50/100 in Financial Times Global MBA ranking 2021), I would advise you to rethink your choice of university. While you might still get invited for the interviews, there might be better options in the region in case this is relevant (e.g. Darden or Duke).
  • Especially given that 1) it is not necessarily a target university for MBB and 2) you are not provided any financial help, I would advise you to look out for other options with better value-for-money/value-for-time ratios.

In case you want a more detailed discussion on how to best decide on your next career steps to get into MBB, please feel free to contact me directly.

I hope this helps,

Hagen

Are you doing Emory or MBA just to then later get into MBB or do you genuinely need that MBA to learn new skills, build network, and/or change the direction of your career? If latter, then Emory will do just fine and you can steer yourself where you need to go.

If you get into the MBA for the right reasons & enjoy the learning, good things will happen. If not, frustration, anxiety is inevitable. And, yes a higher ranked program will give the extra nudge and make the process a little easier.

Also, you dont really need a MBA to get into MBB or other Consulting firms. Yes, its a popular path but you can do without it too- strong CV, cover letter, referrals and interview performance. It will be tad bit harder but not impossible.

All the best.

Hi there,

Quite honestly, it's not really. Without a scholarship I personally don't think it makes sense (if you're spending that kind of money and losing those 2 years of income, the payout is really only worth it if you're going to top 15-20 imho).

Hi, I confirm it's not the most efficient way to get into MBB. If you don't have the perfect fit right now, what about spending the next 2 years in a good boutique/tier2-3 or in a multinational? You would build a solid cv to apply then to top tiers

Best,
Antonello

Hello!

It seems form your question that you haven´t yet decided. In that case, I would advise you to look for one of the so-called “target-schools”, if you target is MBB.

Furthermore, an MBA is a huge investment, not only of money but moreoever time, hence you need to make the decision carefully.

Happy to talk about MBAs in the US and MBB, feel free to PM

Hope it helps!

Cheers,

Clara
