Hello everyone,

can you tell me how I can best prepare for the role play during the DHL recruiting process? For example, are there any YouTube channels, books or similar?

Thanks in advance and best regards,
Francisco

Hi Francisco,

First of all, congratulations on the invitation from DHL Consulting!

I would be happy to share my thoughts on your question:

  • First of all, I would advise you to clarify the objectives of the role play with the recruiter. Role plays in consulting interviews usually aim to assess your interpersonal skills, client handling, negotiation skills, and sometimes, your problem-solving capabilities under pressure.
  • Moreover, familiarize yourself with potential scenarios. For example, dealing with a resistant client, negotiating timelines, or convincing stakeholders about a particular solution.
  • Lastly, always remember to stay calm, think before you speak, and prioritize the relationship while meeting the objective of the role play.

If you would like a more detailed discussion on how to best prepare for your upcoming interviews, please don't hesitate to contact me directly.

Best,

Hagen

Hi,

in role play scenarios, you will usually be confronted with some form of negotiation or conflict resolution requirement. Make sure you empathize with your partner, put yourself in their shoes and be attentive to their concerns. In many cases, a compromise is the path forward.

Role plays are almost always used in “assessment center ” type formats. There are plenty of materials online that help you prepare for those so it's worth checking out. Whatever DHL uses shouldn't be worlds apart.

Best of luck

Hi Francisco,

The best prep is hiring a coach.

The second best prep is finding a peer/partner to case prep with.

The final way to prep is through googling - and Preplounge actually has several DHL cases for you to work through!

Hi Francisco!

Ideally, aim to have somebody who knows what they're doing practice it with you. Otherwise it can either be useless or damaging.

Practically, that means either an expert coach or a recent employee at DHL.

For the latter, you might get to know them through a networking chat and they might offer it. Sharing with you a guide on how to source these sort of conversations and then how to conduct them:

Good luck!
Cristian

Hi,

Role play type interviews are getting more common, both in corporate and in consulting firms.

I think there are some resources you could google - e.g. how to handle a difficult situation with a client, but ultimately what you need is practice with a live partner who can give you good feedback.

Find someone who can help you on this, ideally

  • Has worked a couple years in a company with a good brand/prestige in a relevant enough type of work
    • Does not need to be DHL, but other large corporates would work, versus say working in a small restaurant
  • Ideally a manager level (this means the person has likely gone through these scenarios him/herself)
  • Ideally has been an interviewer before

All the best!
