Hi community,

I’ve received an offer from BCG London (consultant role). I have 4 years experience post MBA for context. They didn’t mentioned anything about sign on bonus but I know there is and other people have successfully negotiated for it.

Can someone tell me what's the norm for BCG London Signing Bonus in £ for consultant role?

How do you negotiate the signing bonus when the firm didn’t offer at the first place and what’s a reasonable business case/argument?

Congrats on the offer! Have you received the offer letter or is this just communication from recruiting? Either way, signing bonus is traditionally a part of the offer and is definitely negotiable unlike the base salary. You can find out how much bonus others coming in at your level (Associate/Consultant etc.) are getting and go from there. If you are an experienced hire and leaving bonus or other income on the table by accepting BCG's offer, you can add that amount to the signing bonus request as well. From my experience, they're very willing to negotiate (within the maximum limits) once they've given you the offer. The key is finding out what the maximum bonus for your level is and making a case for getting that amount.

Dear Anonymous,

congratulations on securing the role. First, yes, you can definetely simply ask. Second, on the other hand always look at it from a  long-term view. If you are planning to consult for at least a few years you can make this back quickly (with saving) and alternatively you can simply work a few months extra. So even in case it is not offered, this is still a tremendous opportunity and you should not be disappointed at all. Given that it is BCG your career opportunities will be vast and with some patience (putting in some extra time combined with saving) you will make back the missed bonus very quickly. Often at the beginning of our career we think less about the fact that we will be working for decades, if you factor this in and the financial impact is still very positive. Of course there are many other great points about BCG to consider. Please do not hesitate to reach out if you have further questions.

Hi there,

congrats on your offer first of all!

I am not sure for what role you have received the offer, hence hard to say, but usually there are singing bonuses offered in Europe, but it depends on your role and seniority.

Usually experienced hires and MBA gets them automatically, if you didn't I would suggest to politely ask the HR, because from my experience if there is singing bonus attached to the role, HR wont wait until you ask for it.

There is some room to negotiate singing bonus, particularly if you need to reallocate or leaving bonus in your current company.

Good luck!

Lucie

Hello!

This is going to depend fully on your tenure.

For the low ranks (analysts, etc.), the offers are very standard and it´s very difficult to negotiate. When you go up, this totally changes.

Which position were you offered? Are the other people that you mention in your question the same tenure?

Hope it helps!

Cheers,

Clara

Hey there, you should absolutely be able to bring this up and negotiate yourself a sign on bonus (assuming you're doing it in the right way).

The amount depends on job level and experience. For experienced hires/MBA, the ballpark should be 25,000-30,000 USD. If you're a recent grade, you're looking at <10,000 USD.

Hope this helps a bit! Best of luck!

Do you know what's the amount for BCG London? I know that it would be lower than the US offers.

Hi there,

If you are coming in entry level (i.e. out of undergrad/uni and Associate) I would not negotiate. However, if you are getting hired in literally any other scenario/role (experienced hire etc) then you should 100% try! If you do it respectfully there is literally no harm!
