Hi!

First of all, congrats!!!

The other coaches already gave you interesting insights.

I'd like to add another factor to consider: who you will work with. Your manager will represent a huge source of learning for you to grow and thrive in the company.

Hope this helps.

Best,

Anto

You got to compare some other details:

  • What are the grade levels of both jobs? Assuming that both offers are from different firms - you might want to check the relative level of the jobs. For example in Amazon PMs are generally Grade 5 or max 6 (generally Senior PM). A higher relative grade would typically mean a shorter ladder to the top.
  • What are your interests? PM will generally have more dynamism and variety in work v/s Corp Strat due to the nature of the job. PM will also give you more implementation exposure whereas Corp Strat will have more exposure to senior leadership.
  • And other such parameters

Happy to discuss in-depth. Feel free to send me a direct message with your concerns.

Both.

It depends on your personal growth goals!

My strong advice is to think about what you want to do. Where do you see yourself in 5 years?

Do you prefer the Tech world or the business/strategy world?

If you can give us some clarity here we can help you figure out which path may be best for you individually!

Hello,

Congratulations on your offers! These are two very different positions. Would you rather be working on creating/managing products (a more tech role) or oversee business strategy (a more business role)? Depending on the companies, both roles should have exciting career trajectories and opportunities, but the question is in what you are more interested in doing.

Some other factors to potentially think about would be:

  • Who would you be working with? How big are the teams? Talk to some of your potential co-workers and see whether you could visualise yourself working there.
  • What is the culture like at each of the companies? Does one seem like a better fit?
  • What is the work like in each of these positions - is it a lot of meetings? Will you be travelling a lot? What are typical work hours like?

I would do some due diligence (if you haven't done so already) and think about what role seems more interesting and a better fit for you.

It depends on your personal preferences and passion for the product you will be owning for instance.

Both require very similar skillsets. I would further inquire about the career opportunities post each of them. My take is that it is easier to shift from product manager to strategy vs from corporate strategy to product manager but this should not be a key decision driver.
