Hi All,

Just got invited to Roland Berger First Round Interview for the Saudi/UAE office. Would appreciate any tips and guidance for my first round; like is market sizing a possibility ? or is it more towards cases? Are cases more oriented to particular type? Thank you!!!

Hi there,

I've been with RB for 5.5 years so can give you some advice:

  1. Market sizing is quite common. 2 out of 5 cases I did involved at least 1 market sizing question
  2. In MENA region there's a lot of real project work being done in the public sector (main one), infrastructure and sustainability/ circular economy. So you likely will get cases on these topics as well
  3. In addition to standard business cases, please be prepared to also get an unusual question (you may or may not get one, but you shouldn't be surprised if you do). E.g., for my last interview, I had a case about “slow” elevator speed for tall skyscrapers

Please feel free to contact me directly if you need additional support. I have extensive experience in conducting real interviews for RB

Cheers!

Hi there,

You can definitely get market sizing questions at RB Dubai but also business case questions.

If you need help and real questions asked there please feel free to PM me, I helped several candidates for that office and know a good number of questions they asked.

Best,

Francesco

Hi! I interviewed with RB a while ago and also got market sizing. On the other hand, market sizing shows up in most interviews and since for every firm you're going to have a few rounds, it's like to show up all the time across the recruitment process. So be ready for it.

The best thing is to practice across the entire spectrum of case study types (market sizing, profitability, etc.) so you get really good at structuring these and then also do a few which are a bit more creative so you don't become too stiff with frameworks. Hit me up if you need any support. Happy to discuss how my interview went (not well ;) and for a good reason )

Hi there,

This is indeed an interesting question which is probably relevant for quite a lot of users, so I'm happy to give you my perspective on that:

Complementary to what other coaches said, case studies at Roland Berger are very similar to those of other consulting companies. As such, market sizing - either as a standalone case study or part of one, definitely is a possibility.

Regarding the dominating industries and functions in the Saudi/ UAE office, feedback from coachees of mine and my personal network was that they have a certain focus on

  • Civil Economics (i.e. public sector) (industry)
  • Infrastructure (industry)
  • Sustainability topics (function)

In case you need a direct source of information regarding Saudi/ UAE office, I'd be happy to introduce you to a friend of mine who has been working there for a couple of years.

I hope this helps,

Hagen

Hi there,

Your approach to preparing for RB should not be particularly different to your approach for any other strategy consulting interview.

Learn a wide array of case types, industries, and scenarios that might come up. Of course you do need to be prepare for market sizing and behavioral/fit.

As part of Saudi Arabia/UAE there is, of course, a much higher chance of cases relating to that region (e.g. O&G, Energy, Tourism, Government/Public sector, etc.)

Good luck!

Hello,

My perception has been that RB do pretty typical first rounds, both market sizing and standard business cases can show up. I would prepare different types of cases and prepare to be flexible in the case interview.

Hi. I recently interviewed with them all the way to the final round and I only got market sizing questions. However, I did hear that you also get standard cases. Within market sizing, there was also some follow-up questions to assess other parts of the case skills.

Math was straightforward and pragmatic rounding was also well accepted by the interviewers. Overall great interview experience.

Hi!

You'll encounter the usual business case typologies (market sizing, P&L, etc.).

I would focus particularly on market sizing, cases on infrastructures, and also some public sector ones.

Hope this helps.

Best,

Anto

Hi there,

in addition to all the comments and explanations, find below a few practice cases that are representative of the Roland Berger style. Of course there can always be a market-sizing case as well or a case where that is at least a component of it:
