I currently work at a Big4 Consulting. I have recently been offered an internal move to specialise within Digital and Data Analytics in Healthcare.

I wish to apply to Healthcare Private Equity in a couple years. Does this help or affect my chances?

Hello!

Perhaps you are the same person than wrote the last post ;)

Given that you clarify what your long-term goal is, in this case Healthcare PE, I think it makes all the sense in the world to make this change and become and industry expert.

Other couple of things I would take into consideration in your shoes:

  • Do you konw the poeple in both workstreams? This can make a huge difference
  • Same with the career plans, are they anyhow different among the two of them?

Hope it helps!

Cheers,

Clara

Hi Clara, thanks for this. Definitely know and have worked with people in both work-streams. I have an excellent rapport on both ends but fit extremely well with the work culture of the digital and data analytics team. It’s one of the big reasons I’m considering this move so it’s in fact good validation for me that you’re stressing upon this point.

If Healthcare is where you want to be and is your area of passion, then this move will help. Making the move to PE will also warrant strong financial & strategy skills, so make sure you bag that experience as well.

Hi,

All consultants specialize over time. The earlier you specialize, the better. This will give you:

  • Better exit opportunities (clients, external, other consulting companies)
  • Faster career growth
  • Better work-life balance (predictable workflow, expertise you can leverage, staying with the same client)

Hi there,

First, Healthcare AND Digital is a fantastic focus to be in. Not only are Healthcare and Digital each huge growth sectors (and all signs suggest they will continue to be), but there are some fascinating developments happening in the intersections of Digital and Healthcare.

Second, if you're interested in Healthcare PE, this absolutely helps your chances in the future!

Hey there,

This can definitely help. Also, it's a cool move since you will work on two important topics of our times, where a lot of firms will be founded and bought by PE firms in the next few years

  • healthcare
  • digital analytics

I don't see any downsides here.

All the best!

Florian

If you enjoy it and truly want to do it it helps if not then it does not. If a PE hires you based on this knowledge you will have to continue to specialize in this field. That becomes impossible over time if it is not something you genuinely enjoy.
