Hi guys,

About 1 week ago, I was contacted by a BCG headhunter via Linkedin. I had a 20-minute phone call with that person soon after that. Then she asked me to provide her with my latest resume. It has been a week since my resume was submitted.
My question is how long it takes for resume screening and is it likely that I have been rejected without and notification?

I Would love to hear your opinions and thoughts

Many thanks

P/s: I am in Vietnam, I have the master of finance from UTS (australia, gpa 3.74),  just under 1 year of experience as market research analyst. The vacant position is Research associate requiring 1-2 years of experience, based in Ho Chi Minh city

Hey there,

If they reach out, they have already seen your profile on LinkedIn and think you would be a good candidate.

The resume screening in this case is more of a formal hurdle, mainly driven by administrative backlog I would say. Alternatively, they might compare your resume with other profiles and then decide whether or not to move forward with the interviewing process.

I'd give it 2 weeks before contacting them again.

Fingers crossed!

Cheers,

Florian

Hi Ducanh,

You are certainly not rejected, for these three reasons:

1. It's unlikely BCG would reject you after reading your resume, since they had already seen the same information on your LinkedIn page.

2. HR is frequently late with processing certain steps, because the BCG HR office is really small vis-a-vis the candidate pool, and external events might cause delays.

3. BCG certainly must communicate a rejection and not just go silent, especially since it wasn't you who reached out to the Company.

Given all this, I would give it another week and then touch base with the HR to get a status update.

Good luck!

P.S. by the way, I've recently launched a Youtube channel (called Angelina's Business World), where I talk about consulting prep. I have a video where I share the 5 skills needed in the first year of consulting, which you might find useful once you get your offer! Good luck again :)

Why don't you just ask the recruiter?  All of your questions are very reasonable and no reason why they won’t be happy to try and answer for you. Much better than making a conjecture based on our collective. experience.

Best,

Allen

Hi Allen, I was thinking about asking the recruiter. However, it's been just a week so I decided to wait for 1 more week. I understand it takes time to process a large number of Resume. Besides, I do not want to be pushy. Thanks for sharing your thoughts

Hi Duncah,

You should be just fine! No need to panic/reach out yet.

I would give it another week or 2.

Hi there,

No, the interactions tend to be more elegant than being rejected without being told so. Most likely it's just taking time, but they'll get back to you.

Perhaps give it another week and then casually reach out to them for an update.

In the meantime, try checking whether you could find similar opportunities with other firms (McK, Bain, etc.)
