Hello!

I recently got in touch with a BCG Consultant in a Latin American Office that I am interested in applying to. We had a quick chat regarding company culture and his experience at BCG, at the end of the conversation, I asked if he could refer me for an entry associate position at that BCG office, which he gladly accepted. He told me that he would connect me with the HR person who is responsible for all hiring in that office. Should I wait for the recruiter to reach out or should I apply to the position online? Is there any special link he should send me for the referral? Thank you in advance!

Hi there,

1) Should I wait for the recruiter to reach out or should I apply to the position online?

I would recommend waiting for the recruiter to reach out, unless the person referring communicates otherwise (sometimes you have to apply indicating the name of the person, as indicated in point 2 below).

2) Is there any special link he should send me for the referral?

The process depends on the firm and country. You might have to:

  1. Add the name of the person who is referring you in the application form or
  2. Send your CV to that person, who will then forward it to HR, or
  3. Use a specific link they will share

The person referring you should let you know the way to proceed after hearing back from HR.

Good luck!

Francesco

Hi there,

First of all, congratulations on the progress in the application process with BCG thus far!

I would be happy to share my thoughts on your situation:

  • First of all, in terms of next steps, I would advise you to wait a few days for the recruiter to reach out to you. This shows that you respect the process and the consultant's efforts in referring you. However, if you don't hear back within a week, it's advisable to follow up politely with the consultant.
  • Moreover, regarding a specific link for the referral, this typically depends on the company's internal referral process. It's possible that the consultant will provide you with a link, or your application might be flagged internally as a referral. Either way, ensure your CV and cover letter are tailored to BCG and the specific office you are applying to.

If you would like a more detailed discussion on how to best prepare for your upcoming interviews, please don't hesitate to contact me directly.

Best,

Hagen

Congrats on an effective networking chat!

The referral process differs a lot between offices. In some situations, you receive an official invite that is generated after that person has formally submitted a referral for you. In other offices, it's more manual, and you submit your application and then HR matches the application and the referral.

To figure out which one applies in your office, ask the person who is referring you.

Aim to be as polite as you can and grateful for the help that they're offering, so don't ask too many questions (only what's absolutely necessary).

Good luck!
Cristian

Hi there,

You are in a great position!

1. I would wait another week or so before reaching out again.

2. I would only start the application after you have heard back from your source because some offices send specific application links for referral candidates that will flag your status in the system automatically.

All the best,

Florian
