Hi Prep Lounge coaches,
I have multi year experience with 2 Fortune 500, SME as well as starting and working for successful start-up companies.
However, I have a question regarding 1 unpaid start-up work experience on my CV/Resume.
I had previously joined a start-up, where I was performing consulting work on the side. It was unpaid and the plan was to be compensated in the future, if the company became successful. I decided to leave during the start of the pandemic as engagements were put on hold and work dried up.
Should I communicate the fact it was unpaid during the application process or only if asked? How would I convey this? Ideally, I prefer to be fully transparent to the recruiters and interviewers to avoid any issues.
From a background check perspective would having the start-up founder as a referee be suffice. He is now currently a CTO of a media company.
Thanks
