Just did the McKinsey Solve - aced the first ecosystem game but faltered on the Redrcock case study. Managed to complete the 3 stages of the case study and only did 1 "case" question. Is this enough to pass?

Did the test today and am nervous I failed. Ecosystem went fine, during the Redrock I completed the case itself but only managed to get 1 question out of the 6 completed. Time pressure was tough but am confident that the answers I gave are correct (Accuracy>Speed). Is this enough to pass?

Hi!

Honestly, it's difficult to tell.

Even if you were more explicit with how the game went, we still wouldn't be able to tell because there is no official, office-wide cut off scoring to get to the interview rounds.

If it helps, I always hear from people that they struggle with RedRock so it's not a surprise to be hearing the same from you.

So hold tight and wait for the answer within the coming days. And in the meantime, keep on applying to other firms. Diversifying is crucial. Here's how:

Good luck!

Hi there,

1 out of 6 is really not good…I'm so sorry.

I would be very surprised if you were invited to interview if you only completed 16% of redrock…sorry

That said, it's never done until it's over - so, sit tight, keep prepping, but also keep applying to lots of other firms!

Hi there,

First of all, I am sorry to hear about your poor performance in the McKinsey Solve pre-interview assessment!

I would be happy to share my thoughts on your question:

  • First of all, it is important to understand that McKinsey's assessment process is holistic. While not performing well on one half of the McKinsey Solve can be concerning, your overall performance, including your application files and a potential referral, will be taken into account.
  • Moreover, I would advise you to focus on preparing for the interviews, assuming a positive outcome. You've already demonstrated strong potential by being invited at all during this tight economic situation, and it is essential to carry forward that confidence.

If you would like a more detailed discussion on how to best prepare for your upcoming interviews, please don't hesitate to contact me directly.

Best,

Hagen

Hi there,

Q: During the Redrock I completed the case itself but only managed to get 1 question out of the 6 completed. Is this enough to pass?

It doesn’t look very promising, but the test is just one of the components that they will consider, so hopefully there might still be some chances.

Good luck!

Francesco
