I took PSG early-mid last month, and in the email they said they would follow up with next steps by the first week of Dec. I saw some other people got interview invitation on Fishbowl… I haven't heard anything. I know Mckinsey normally give out rejections. Will rejections come out later than interview invitations? Feel like should give up now.

Hi there,

The time to get a reply after the PSG Solve game varies. It is often within 2 weeks but can be longer. The longest I heard was 2 months and the result was positive.

Given they said 1st week of December, I would wait until the end of next week to follow up.

In terms of whether you should prepare now, I would recommend to:

Good luck!

Francesco

Check the website application status, if it says ‘in progress' you are still in the game.

Yeah, it does still say 'in progress'. Would they update the portal before informing me the rejection though?

If 2 weeks have passed and it is 'in progress' i'd say 99% you passed. so keep some faith and wait. I know it is super annoying to wait but nothing else to do right? .

Yes... it paralyzed me.. I'm not a business student, so preparation for the case interview would only help me in this specific job application. Other applications are all to industrial research which is related to my major, not consulting. So not knowing the result put me in a weird spot where I'm not sure if starting praparation now would turn out to be a waste of time.

You need to start prep yesterday. You're setting yourself up for failure if you wait until actually hearing back. Additionally, this prep isn't just for your interview...you learn so much that is valuable outside of the interview itself (structured thinking, problem-solving, clear communication, business knowledge, etc.)

Hi there,

Please don't give up! You need to wait until you hear back. I would reach out to HR early next week to get an update.

It usually takes 2-3 weeks. Sometimes longer. How long it takes has no correlation with the likelihood of getting the interview.

Take the extra time to start your preparation.

Hi there,

First of all, congratulations on having done the McKinsey Solve!

This is indeed an interesting question which is probably relevant for quite a lot of users, so I am happy to provide my perspective on it:

  • Generally speaking, there seems to be no correlation at all between the time passed until you hear back and the result. I agree with you that it might be odd given you have done the McKinsey Solve at about the same time, but this is not a sign at all.
  • Moreover, unfortunately, it seems that McKinsey (and many other consulting companies) currently have quite volatile recruiting process lead times.
  • Depending on whether you are under time pressure or not, I would advise you to wait another week and politely call the recruiter explaining your situation and asking about the current status - or wait until you hear from them. Obviously, you would not want to leave a negative impression with the support functions even before your career start.

In case you want a more detailed discussion on how to best preprare your (very likely) upcoming McKinsey interviews, please feel free to contact me directly.

I hope this helps,

Hagen
