Hello guys! I just finished my Bain SOVA assesment and it did not went well at all. I took more than 75 minutes to finish close to 100, did not understand the logical reasoning at all but performed close to alright in the other 3 segments. Is the test a gate to the next round or would my CV and cover letter still be consider when making a decision? Any thoughts on my chances of actually passing even after a poor performance? Any help would be appreciated.

P.S This was for Bain Portugal for an AC position

Hi there,

It is a gate.

You likely did not move past this round.

Your performance is assessed holistically and this is a top 3 firm worldwide with 100 applicants per role. You need to be strong across the board (generally)

Learn from this! Invest the time, money, effort, resources and do it right the next time around (and for all the other firms) :)

Sorry to hear that the test didn't go according to expectations.

Most offices will judge the results of the test together with your CV, CL, and referral (if applicable).

But at this point there's nothing that you can do on this one.

I suggest instead that you focus on other applications.

Here's a guide that explains how to build a diverse application strategy -  you might find it useful:

Best,
Cristian

Hello from Portugal (and also a former Bainie)! :)

They will consider all 3 elements, but they expect good performance on the test.

Of course a very strong profile can offset a not so strong result (i.e., the test is not the only element considered), but the worse the result the better the profile needs to be.
