Hi,

I recently was in touch with HR from OW ME. After sending the resume, HR mentioned that they won’t go ahead with my application.

I was wondering if networking and referral might help or shall I just move on?

Thanks

Hi there,

Q: I was wondering if networking and referral might help or shall I just move on?

If they have already officially rejected you, networking won’t help with OW. However you can definitely do networking for the other companies to increase your chances.

You can find more on referrals at the links below:

Hi there!

If they rejected you, a referral won't make a difference at this point.

But you can use this as an opportunity to wonder why the application didn't work out. The referral could be a reason. Or the CV. Or maybe the test if you did it online. Or maybe they just had a lot of applications and now it's just a tough time for consulting roles.

Take a look at the guide below that walks through all these potential hypotheses and how to strengthen your application strategy to account for them:

Cristian

Hi,

Typically this would not help, as what the referral does is to help get your CV infront of the screeners/recruiting team.

No harm trying, but I doubt it will help (at least that was how it worked at BCG).

This one is done and over.

It may help BEFORE the CV screening. After the CV screening it is useless - only when (if) you apply again.

Hi,

you want to go the referral route before HR takes a look at your CV. Since they already communicated a rejection to you, this company is out of the race. For your other applications, you can try to get an internal referral and have the person channel your application to HR. That will increase your chances of getting an invite to a first round interview. Beyond that, it will not be of any further help, however.

Best of luck

At this stage it's unfortunately too late. Networking and referrals are hugely helpful before you submit your application. So if you are interested in reapplying next year, or applying to other firms, definitely look into going down that route!
