I have something that i couldn't get about Mckinsey applications.

If you applied for for more than one position at the Mckinsey portal (you can actually apply to as much as you want), and you got two of these applications status “ in process” that technically means you have two job applications under consideration, if you got rejection in one of them while the second still showing “in progress” does it mean that you still have this chance and you will hear back from the HR? If yes, how the ban policy applies?
also, in the PSG invitation Email they mention that the results of the PSG will be valid for one year, and you will not be able to take the test in less than a year, also, if you believe that you already took the test within the last year you should contact them.. the QUESTION IS if you took the test and did not get to the next round, or you get and didnt get an offer, that means a rejection, how can you reapply within the same year and use the same PSG results?

Hi there,

To your questions:

Q1: If you applied for for more than one position at the McKinsey portal (you can actually apply to as much as you want), and you got two of these applications status “ in process” that technically means you have two job applications under consideration, if you got rejection in one of them while the second still showing “in progress” does it mean that you still have this chance and you will hear back from the HR? If yes, how the ban policy applies?

McKinsey interview processes are global, meaning than once you pass the screening and start the interviews, you cannot be doing interviews for several positions at the same time (even if you use different emails for your applications in different geographies, they will eventually know you are the same person).

You can check how the recruiting process works from an internal MBB perspective here:

Q2: how can you reapply within the same year and use the same PSG results?

Ban periods last between 12 and 18 months. PSG valid period of 12 months means that you can do the interviews within 12 months after passing the test. If you are rejected and enter the ban period, you have to repeat the test when you reapply.

Best,

Alberto

You can apply for as many roles as you want and sometimes they will route to different recruiters.

In fact, as I was on the phone for a role, I received a rejection for a different application 😅

Hi there,

1) If you got rejection in one of them while the second still showing “in progress” does it mean that you still have this chance and you will hear back from the HR? If yes, how the ban policy applies?

Normally you will be considered for one position only in terms of interviews. If you have two positions open, yes, in theory they should let you know for the second one as well. If you are rejected from both, the ban most likely will apply starting from the last rejection.

2) How can you reapply within the same year and use the same PSG results?

Normally you cannot apply within 12 months after a rejection. But in case you can, you might not have been rejected due to the test. Therefore they will still consider your test score together with the new application material for the screening.

Good luck!

Francesco

Hi there,

I would be happy to share my thoughts on your questions:

  • First of all, it's important to understand that even if you normally cannot apply to multiple roles at the same time, each application at McKinsey is evaluated independently. So, if you have multiple applications in process and one gets rejected, the other one obviously still stands a chance.
  • Moreover, regarding the McKinsey Solve results, they are valid for one year which is about the same time as the ban period. As such, technically, there will be very few situations where an applicant does not have to redo the McKinsey Solve.

If you would like a more detailed discussion on how to best prepare for your upcoming McKinsey interviews, please don't hesitate to contact me directly.

Best,

Hagen

Hello,

You can show interest in several posting on McK board but the process will make your candidacy reviewed only once, if it doesn't work out, the whole process would be stopped for this time.

If you have been invited for an interview - you will need to wait 12 months to be able to reapply to another role. If not, you can resubmit a candidacy in a few months but it is unlikely that you would be selected if no major changes have been made to the profile.

Cheers!

In theory yes. In practice I am not sure it will apply often.

Hi there!

That's rather strange. Formally, you can't apply for more than one role at a time. I'd suggest you reach out to the recruiter to figure this out with them directly.

Best,
Cristian
