I took the Imbellus assessment last week and was told that I will hear back next week. Has anyone that has taken the test heard back already? How did you think you did on the assessment since there is so little information about what will determine if you get an interview?

Hi A,

This gamplified tool is designed tests 5 cognitive skills:

  1. Critical thinking: the ability to make thoughtful decisions based on data.
  2. Decision making: the ability to make the best possible decision with limited time and imperfect information.
  3. Metacognition: The ability to use strategies such as hypothesis-testing to problem solve effectively.
  4. Situational awareness: the ability to perceive what’s going on in a complex environment, what it means, and to make projections.
  5. Systems thinking: the ability to understand multi-factor cause-and-effect relationships.

Hi Jasmeet,

This is too late for you, but hopefully useful for someone else.

McKinsey normally provides feedback within 2 weeks after the Imbellus. In rare cases, it happened few days after that.

For those who still have to do the test and want to prepare in the best possible way: I created a guide exactly for that.

This guide will:

  • Show you the perfect strategy for each of the 4 Game Scenarios
  • Explain every single part of the Game with ad-hoc pictures
  • Detail the exact steps to improve in the 5 Skills tested in the game
  • Provide you insider information from previous applicants who succeeded in the game
  • Reveal the must-know answers to the most common questions on the Imbellus
  • Offer you a ready-to-use Excel template to maximize results in Scenario 1 with a detailed tutorial
  • Give you a proven template to build the food chain in Scenario 1

This guide will cover every single part of the Game, so you can be 100% confident the day of the assessment, without worrying “I should have prepared better for this”. You won’t need any additional material to prepare after it.

You can download the guide instantly here:

McKinsey Imbellus Guide by Francesco

As an extra bonus, I am offering for a limited time the Consulting Industry Cheat Sheet (worth $29) for free with the guide. You will get access to the key insights of the 17 most common industries in case interviews.

If you need additional support or have any questions on the guide please feel free to PM me, I am happy to provide extra tips for free.

Hi there!

I assume you already heard back from them, but it still might be helpful for other candidates.
Usually the results take up to 2 weeks after Imbellus McKinsey Assessment.
You can contact HR in case of no response within the time-frame.

All the best,

I took the test on Monday. I thought it was fairly tricky but not impossible. I would expect you have to pass the 30 minute task and also last until the relevant number of steps for the 3 smaller tasks in order to pass. How did you find it?
