Hi,

I've recently interviewed with McKinsey. I went through all the interviews, but unfortunately didn't get an offer. Still, I very much enjoyed talking to the people there, and would like to stay in touch. Is it appropriate to send them a request on LinkedIn, even to the partner? What could I write in the message so it doesn't come across as too pushy?

Thanks

Hi Anonymous,

there is no harm in sending LinkedIn invitations, however there is no guarantee they will be accepted, simply as some people connect only with someone they have actually worked with/had some kind of relationship.

As for the message per se, you can just thank them for their time and say you would be happy to keep in touch.

Best,
Francesco

I would start with a personalized email and then send a linkedin invite once you receive an answer so it comes across as less aggressive.

Hope it helps,

Andrea

Hi,

You may connect via LinkedIn and send a short Thank You note. many candidates are doing that and it doesn't heart.

However, to be honest, LinkedIn connections are kind of devaluated and I don't see any way how it can be useful to you. Unless you are an industry expert and may be useful to the specific partner.

Best,
