MBB new recruit preparation

Anonymous A asked on Oct 02, 2019 - 2 answers

Hello everyone!

I just got an offer for a Business Analyst position in one of the MBB in France and I am thrilled! However, I am also quite nervous. I was wondering how to get ready for this new milestone in terms of readings, clothes and other goods, but mostly what to expect and how to get ready mentally as best as possible?

Thanks in advance!

Hi A,

Congratulations on your offer!
Agreed with Vlad - take a long vacation.

I suggest reading about the role of MBB firms to better understand their role in the corporate world. McKinsey's Marvin Bower would be helpful.

It is important to mention that you will have some basic trainings in the office before you start the job. They will last for a week and help a lot in your further development.

In terms of clothes you should have formal clothes prepared for your job e.g. at least 2 suits and 5 shirts.

All the best,
Egor

Hi,

Not sure if I can help you with clothes and goods (and to be honest it doesn't really matter).

Two important skills to develop are:

1) Excel and Financial modeling - the best course I know is Training The Street. Take Financial Modeling, Valuation, Maybe LBO. They have the amazing templates that you have to repsoduce to be able to do that fast.

The key thing - throw away your mouse and put some tape on your touchpad. Do everything with your keyboard!

2) Power Point

  • First, read "Say it with charts" and "Pyramid Principle".
  • As a next step Google for MBB presentations on SlideShare and try to replicate them in PPT.
  • Finally, take MBA some cases (HBS or any other) and try to derive the conclusions and put them on slides using MBB styles.

And finally - take a long vacation before starting your job;)

Good Luck!
