Got invited to take Bain's psychometric assessment. Is it the full test or just the behavioural part?

hi PrepLounge,

I'm a bit confused about the invite I got from Bain. I got an email invite to take Bain's psychometric assessment but the email states it'll only take 25 minutes to complete which doesn't line up with others who state the test requires at least an hour to complete.

Is this assessment only the ‘fit’ part of the test? Any insight around this would be greatly appreciated.

Thanks!

Hi Lucas,

I fully agree with Ian's assessment here! Given the time estimate, it seems like it may well just be the ‘fit’ part, but my advice is that it's better to overprepare than underprepare in this situation. So I would also recommend preparing the IQ component of the test, just in case. If it doesn't come up now, you may well receive the additional component later.

Thank you, Sofia for the helpful insight! I will definitely over prepare just in case

Hi Lucas,

thanks for the question -

  • Please note that the test format for Bain varies by region / office. Would be good go know where you're applying?
  • Also, sometimes the format is further adapted based on your specific profile. Which career level are you applying for?
  • When in doubt, can always check / follow up with their HR team on what to expect.

Hope this helps. Good luck!

Regards, Andi

I applied to the Middle East but I actually just did the assessment and it was purely behavioural with no quantitative sections. I was honest with my answers but kept Bain's core values in mind while answering them.

Appreciate the help!

Hi Lucas,

As always, things change.

As all of us coaches here say: Don't go in expecting things.

Sounds like it might only be the fit. Or it might only be the IQ side. Or, it might be a shorter test.

Go in flexibly.

That said, my leading hypothesis would be that it will only be the fit part (but I would not go in expecting/hoping it is only that).

Great, thank you! I'll definitely prepare for all aspects of the regular test so I'm fully prepared.

Appreciate the insight.

Hi there,

There are variations in these tests between regions. Plus, the tests also keep on changing.

If it's making you confused, reach out to the recruiter and ask for more details on it.

Say that based on your research the test is meant to take an hour and ask whether it has recently changed.

Tell them that you just want to be as prepared as you can be for the test.

Best of luck!
Cristian
