Hi all,

Is there any chance to land a job offer from MBB in a foreign office? What would you recommend to increase my chances?

I was on my final rounds in BCG Russia when the tradegy between Russia&Ukraine happened. The recruitment process has stopped for MBB firms here

Ive received confirmation from HR managers of BCG and Mckinsey that I can apply for any open roles globally but I have to start from scratch.

What would you recommend me to do  to increase my chances of landing an offer? How to pick the right office to apply?

My languages: Russian - native, English - fluent, German - basic

Exp hire 10+ years, FMCG well-known international companies based in Moscow

Hi there,

I'm so sorry you're caught in the crosshairs of such an unnecessary conflict :/

You absolutely can land a role elsewhere! The main advice is:

  1. Apply where your resume matches (languages spoken, working rights exist, experience is recognized). Sounds like Germany/Austria and the UK are going to be your best bets
  2. Networking with a whole heap of offices to try to get a referral (and gauge odds/interest)
  3. Push the current office you're interviewing with to put you in touch with other offices (including HR). You need to push ernestly for this

Good luck!

Hi there,

very sorry to hear that this saddening event is also impacting you on a personal level.

The good news is that it is definitely possible to land offers abroad - the chances really depend on the geography though.

I used to work for BCG in Germany (given you speak German) as well as Dubai & Australia (2 hotspots for international consultants) - feel free to send me a private message , if you'd like to learn more about how to optimize your odds for those specific places and to get a view on your chances. Happy to help.

Regards,

Andi

Hi there,

I am really sorry to hear that. I'm Russian myself, I've worked in the  BCG Milan office, and I'm very sympathetic towards my Moscow colleagues, and other Russian professionals for that matter.

My sincere advice would be to leverage your existing language skills, double down on German and go ahead and apply in Germany/Switzerland: from my experience, office language matters a great deal, and feeling comfortable with it is a must.

I would be happy to offer you a free consultation if you want to chat about this further.

Best of luck,

Angelina

Hello!

That is terrible, so sorry to hear about your situation.

I would say that the big big blocker when applying internationally is the visa, since it´s the only thing that cannot be worked around (languages are problematic too, but that can be fixed).

Hence, I would prioritize countries where you know you can work.

Also referrals would work ver well in your case, given that the process was stopped.

Hope it helps!

Cheers,

Clara
