McKinsey Data Scientist TEI Technical Interview

TEI and PEI interviews at McKinsey are different. While both will look into some of your previous stories, PEI focus on evaluating your soft skills and TEI on the technical ones for your specific role (data scientist in this case).

Hi,

I know about 2 different cases:

1. Applying to McKinsey in-house data science company that they bought recently - QuantumBlack as an experienced data scientist. They tested the SQL requests a bit, but more thoroughly they tested the skills in Python programming and data architecture.
2.  Applying to McKinsey as a data scientist to R&I department as a PHD hire. The process was very similar to the standard R&I process at McKinsey. They usually ask the cases and PEI, but PEI is less structured (have 5-6 stories in mind and adapt them quickly). They also tested the specific knowledge of the industry in the PHD thesis for this candidate.
