Medtronic Consulting

Hello Guys,

I recently had an initial conversation with Medtronic’s recruitment team on 7 August for a Senior Manager – Healthcare Consulting role. The recruiter later emailed me saying my application was still under consideration but that there would be a short delay because the hiring manager was out of office. She is returning on 2 September.

It has now been a few weeks since my call, and I haven’t received further updates or next steps. For those who’ve interviewed with Medtronic (especially for consulting/healthcare senior roles), how long did the process take between the initial HR conversation and the next stage (case interview or hiring manager interview)?

  • Is it normal for Medtronic to take 3–4+ weeks before scheduling the next step?
  • Does “under consideration” generally mean they are keeping you in the shortlist, or is it more of a placeholder until they finalize stronger candidates?
  • Any insights on how their recruitment timelines compare to consulting firms (e.g., Big 4, strategy boutiques)?

Thanks in advance for sharing your experiences!

Hi there,

Medtronic (and most large medtechs) typically run slower hiring cycles than consulting firms. A few points to keep in mind:

  • Timeline: 3–4 weeks between HR screening and next steps is very common, especially if the hiring manager was out. Unlike MBB/Big 4, they don’t run fixed recruiting “rounds” — processes can stretch 6–8 weeks.
  • “Under consideration”: This usually means you’re still on the shortlist, not a rejection placeholder. It’s HR’s way of confirming you’re active in the pipeline, just pending manager availability.
  • Comparison to consulting firms: Consulting firms (Big 4, boutiques, MBB) tend to move faster — 1–2 weeks between stages — because they have structured recruiting calendars. Corporates like Medtronic prioritize business schedules over recruiting speed, so delays don’t carry negative signals.

In short: a 3–4+ week gap at Medtronic is normal. Since the manager was due back Sept 2, you can wait until early next week (if you still haven’t heard) before sending a polite follow-up to the recruiter.

Happy to help you prep – feel free to reach out.

Best,

Evelina

Hey!

it’s quite normal for them that timelines stretch longer than in consulting firms. Three to four weeks between HR and the next round is not unusual, especially if a hiring manager is out. “Under consideration” usually means you’re on their shortlist but they can’t move forward until internal discussions happen, not just a placeholder. Compared to MBB or Big 4, where processes are much faster and structured, Medtronic and other corporates often have slower cycles with pauses like this. If you don’t hear back a week after the manager’s return, it’s fine to send a short check-in.

best, Alessa :)
