BCG Case Interview

I feel like one aspect that has totally been neglected in this case is the general development of the overall market and the respective consumer preferences (not just our current customer base's perceptions). Thus, the overall market segmentation of the market (mass vs mid), their respective sizes, estimated growth rates.

Am I too far off or is this really lacking in this case?

On another note: I don't understand that the case neglects the lifters so much. Ofc they only represent 10% of our current customer base, however they represent young customers that we need for long-term financial prosperity and success.

Appreciate any insights!

Hi there,

I would be happy to share my thoughts on your question:

  • First of all, could you share with me the hyperlink to the case study?
  • Moreover, unfortunately, many case studies have flaws. Even though I don't know the specific case study yet, there is a good chance that you are right, considering the level of your reasoning.

If you would like a more detailed discussion on how to best prepare for your upcoming interviews, please don't hesitate to contact me directly.

Best,

Hagen

Thank you very much, that was very helpful. I personally think that all this market information is not necessary if the core of the question is competition response. That being said, competitive response cases are very rare, so I would advise you to stop worrying about this particular case and possibly consult other sources as well.

Hi there,

Could you link the case?

One thing to note: most cases miss things. Even cases with interviewers!

I still remember a candidate I had last year who wrote down the entire case from her Bain interviewer. The case flow actually made no sense at all!

So, just remember, some cases make perfect sense, others don't. Some are linear, some are not. And, ALL of them will “miss” items…because they're a 3-10 month project crammed into a 20 minute mock!

You're asking great questions.

No case is perfect. And the solutions provided are most often just general guidance rather than the absolute truth. There is no single answer.

These sorts of questions you should make part of your conversation with the interviewer. This is how you show them that you're genuinely thinking through the situation and putting yourself in the shoes of the client.

Best,
Cristian
