Hello everyone,

I got rejected from one of the MBB firms after taking the online assessment test but I can still apply from the portal. Seems like there is some technical glitch.

Should I go ahead and apply for another office?

I have already passed the CV screening so I have higher chances of getting selected again.

Hey there,

While you can apply online, your application would still be rejected at some stage given the common ban period of 12-24 months, depending on the firm, office, and role.

I would rather focus on networking on working on your resume:

  • education
  • work experience
  • experience abroad
  • extracurriculars

and apply again after the official ban period has ended. You don't want to ‘hack’ your way into MBB. :-)

Cheers,

Florian

This is a common misunderstanding where your CV is still part of the consideration of whether you pass the test or not. If you have a super strong CV, they won’t simply turn you done because your test score was low.

As Florian says, I would take the message instead of looking for hacks.

I was told that my test result does not meet the threshold that is the reason I was rejected. I know partners in that office which is why they gave me individual feedback.

That would be "official" response given to candidates but let's be honest, if you had a super strong profile, you wouldn't turn them down just because of a 60 min test...

Hi,

I completely agree with Florian that it's not a good idea to try to “hack” your way into MBB or try to take advantage of the system - at some point your name and contact information will be matched in the system, and you risk getting banned for longer. If you want to, you could reach out to a recruiter to explain the situation and ask them whether you could still apply from the portal. But unless they explicitly say that it's fine to do so, I wouldn't do it.

Honestly, go ahead if it's what you want to do, but it's not going to work - this is a sophisticated system that cross-checks to ensure no prior applications beforehand!
