I've been practicing the solve games with MConsulting prep's simulation, and found that the wording/syntax of the game's problem is extremely unclear, and it is hard to understand what's being asked a lot of the time. Is that something that you all have seen/experienced using their platform? Will the actual game also have wording/syntax similar to the simulation? It's discouraging because I know how to do most of the calculations, but their poor wording/syntax causes me to do the wrong calculation a lot of the time.

In addition, I have also gotten questions wrong due to minor rounding errors (e.g., I put 299.05 instead of the answer 298.95). Will McKinsey care a lot about that? Or as long as my answer is close enough to the actual answer then it's good.

Hi there

The MCP simulation is rather good. What is indeed surprising is how different the complexity level is between the different games. I didn't notice any issues with the syntax, but I'm sure that if you feel there is something they could improve, they would appreciate the feedback.

On the errors, if the number is wrong, then it's wrong. The recruiters get a scoring from the test, they don't actually go through your results to figure out which ones were close enough to the actual answer (sorry :) )

Best,
Cristian

Hi there,

Pedro and Cristian have rightly pointed out that only precise results count, so definitely be careful in your calculations.

Regarding syntax, in your own best interest I would advise you to check yourself by asking a very analytically inclined friend for his/her opinion based on specific questions and your interpretations of them. You might be right, but it might also be a problem regarding interpreting the task correctly. To be on the safe side, I would honestly encourage you to check it.

Hope that helped!

Best,
Gero

1. Unfortunately it is not a great simulation…

2. You need an exact answer, unfortunately. In cases, estimates are ok (but mistakes are not ok), but in the simulation they have no way to check whether you are doing an estimation or not.
