Hey all,

I received an interview invite from a large boutique consulting firm. I quickly responded and gave them several times and dates I was available. It has been about a week since I emailed them, should I reach out on Monday for a follow-up or is this normal?

Thank you in advance! Haven't had this happen to me yet.

Hi there,

Sorry about this - honestly, it can often be a pain to coordinate with these places.

Given it has been a week, you can absolutely followup. Always remember to minimize number of exchanges required.

Respond. Gently “check” if they received the email and say, just in case those dates don't work, here are some additional options.

As much as you can, give wide ranges (Mon + Tuesday any time between 9am and 1pm) for example.

Hi there,

First of all, congratulations on the invitation from the boutique consulting firm!

I would be happy to share my thoughts on your question:

  • First of all, it's normal to be anxious about the response time, especially when you're eager to move forward. Waiting for about a week can feel long, but sometimes the recruiting team can be swamped with many tasks.
  • Moreover, I would advise you to wait till Monday as you suggested. If you haven't heard back by then, it's appropriate to send a polite follow-up email. It will show them your continued interest in the position.

You can find more on this topic here: Boutique consulting companies.

If you would like a more detailed discussion on how to best prepare for your upcoming interviews, please don't hesitate to contact me directly.

Best,

Hagen

Hi there!

Sorry to hear they're not more responsive.

Yes, follow-up with them with a revised set of availabilities. Try to be as polite and non-pushy, non-assuming as possible.

And make sure you apply to other firms in the meantime if you haven't done so already.

Best,
Cristian

Hi,

Sometimes processes lapse/people let things slip through the cracks.

1-2 weeks of a gap is a reasonable timeframe to follow up, just be sure to be polite in the way you are doing so.

All the best!

After one week it is fine to follow up with HR in your situation, there is not penalty in doing so.

Best,

Francesco
