I'm sorry to hear. That's never good.

Speak with a professional, please. Honestly, here, we won't be able to give you better answers than ChatGPT could.

Hey there,

Sorry to hear you have trouble sleeping. :(

Is your lack of sleep due to the amount of work (i.e., cannot sleep because don't have time) or because of insomnia (i.e., have time to sleep but cannot fall asleep; assume it's this one based on your note)? If you share a few more details then I would be happy to share some thoughts (or feel free to reach out for a quick intro call and we can discuss this).

Best,
Maria

Hello,

I am so sorry for that. Some projects can be really tough and I know that the culture pressures us to keep working when we should be resting, since everybody is doing this.
Look for help as this may impact your health directly, no professional activity is worth our wellbeing. You can try to change to a different project, leverage internal resources to make your work more efficient or ask for a postponement of your assignments. Or even ask for a leave.
I hope things get better soon!

Best,

Mari

Hi!

This sucks and we've all been there.

I have an issue tree for you hehe (i actually did this for myself)

Step 1: Understand the Root Cause

  1. Is this a recurring issue, or just a rough project/study?
    • If it’s recurring: This may point to deeper misalignment to the firm/home issues.
    • If it’s temporary: It might be tied to a specific study.
  2. Is this related to the current study?
    • If yes:
      • Is the project ending soon?
        • If yes: Can you push through, knowing it’s almost over?
        • If no: Is this type of project likely to happen again? If yes, the issue might be systemic (missalignment of firm expectations and yourself).
    • If no:
      • Then it's more likely tied to your overall experience at the firm.
  3. Is this about your overall experience at MBB?
    • If yes: What options are on the table?
      • Try to make it work:
        • Seek support (mentors e.g. internal partners and managers to guide you, therapist, doctor, coach).
        • Speak with someone internally (PD, staffing, mentor,)
        • DO NOT DO THIS ALONE!
      • Shift roles internally:
        • Consider moving to a different team or function (e.g. knowledge, operations, recruiting). Alot of people forget about this option, but it is available and real possibility.
      • Consider leaving:
        • Explore roles outside consulting that align better with your lifestyle and goals.
    • If no - look at other external factors (top of my head)
      • Personal health: Are you eating well? drinking eough water
      • Good sleep habits: Is your room dark? Is your room cool? Do you have a routine to lull yourself to sleep (I only sleep with a dark black out mask on)
      • Exercising enough: You need to exercise to burn off some pent-up energy, to clear your mind.

Step 2:

Actually do the things - remember you only have one beautiful life, so look after yourself!!!

Good luck :)

Hi there,

That sucks!

It might not improve your sleep deficit right in this moment, but I have created a 1-hour video for PrepLounge on work-life balance strategies that can make your life easier (and get you more sleep): https://youtu.be/4VK8wL_xsmQ?si=giSBhp2EaP8XiS3B

All the best!

Hypothesis 1: you don't have enough time to sleep? -> if temporary, wait a bit or discuss with manager; if permanent, find another job or transfer office

or

Hypothesis 2: you have the time to sleep but you find yourself unable to do so? -> find professional help; you may consider finding another job as well, health should always be a priority.

Hey there,

Totally feel you — your mind must be on overdrive. Try stepping away from screens, doing some light stretching or deep breathing, and reminding yourself it’s okay not to fall asleep instantly.

If this keeps happening, happy to chat more or support however I can. You're not alone in this!

Best regards,
Alessa
