Hi Younho,

I would be happy to share my thoughts on your situation:

  • First of all, while your academic performance wasn’t indeed that great, I would highly advise you to consider directly applying to the transportation practices of your target consulting firms in order to increase your chances of getting invited. Given your work experience in that field, the practice leadership may be quite interested in your profile.
  • Moreover, getting into a competitive MBA program like INSEAD may also improve your candidacy, even if I would still advise you to first apply and see about the outcome.

If you would like a more detailed discussion on how to best prepare your applications, please don't hesitate to contact me directly.

Best,

Hagen

Hi Younho,

Q: Any chance for me to get into Kearney, Accenture, LEK Consulting or Roland Berger in locations worldwide?

If you get into INSEAD and manage to (i) present well your work experience, (ii) show good extracurriculars and (iii) get referrals, I believe you have a chance to receive invitations. After that, it is mainly a matter of doing well in the interviews. So overall, if you manage to do the above, I believe your plan is feasible.

At the same time, given the investment required in terms of time and money, I would recommend doing an MBA if it might be useful also for an alternative career path as a backup plan.

Good luck!

Francesco

Hi there,

INSEAD could be a door opener. Without the MBA, I believe even T2 would be a bit of a stretch - especially in current market conditions!

All the best,

Hi,

Based on your rough description of your profile, I think definitely going to INSEAD drastically increases your chances of going into consulting. Would suggest that path instead.

Plus it also opens up other opportunities to corporate etc.

Hello there,

Kudos on the GRE scores!

  1. Getting in without an MBA: It is highly unlikely that you get into the aforementioned firms unless you are able to craft your resume and cover letter to show high calibre professional achievements and network to stupor while showing current consultants you can already think and speak like them. Another differentiator could be targeting networking efforts at Partners/Principals/Consultants focused on industries and practice areas where you have experience
  2. Getting in with an MBA: Your chances vastly improve with an INSEAD MBA but there are 2 points to note. Firstly, you'll be competing with other MBA candidates so it won't be a walk in the park. Also, your pre-MBA experience will be considered by some firms so suggestions from point 1 are still pertinent

Feel free to reach out with any further questions.

Fathu
