Hello!
Currently I am working as an Executive Assistant supporting six seniors in one of the ‘MBB’ firms in India.
I am attracted to explore a career in management consulting. Looking at my current job profile, it does not look easy at all to internally move within the firm for such a role. But I am ready to build my profile and work towards it.
My background - Prior to joining the firm, I was working for a foreign mission supporting their Political Communications team in India. My profile involved tracking of political/economic developments and managing outreach activities on social media etc. I also had a brief stint in a leading news agency covering national and international politics.
Academic qualification - I have a PG Diploma in Journalism and Mass Communication from one of the premier institutes in the country.
(The only reason I joined as an EA at the firm is because of financial considerations. Pay in media industry is not that great.)
Question - In my current situation, is an MBA indispensable for a career in consulting? I want to do an MBA but not immediately as I cannot leave my job right now, so any suggestions if I can do any certifications which might help a year down the line while applying for open roles?
Other than certifications, any other suggestions are welcome.
Thank you for your patience.
Regards
