I don’t see how this could affect you. If anything, this might have prevented them to extend the internship offer (although from what you shared there would have been no real reasons, since the motivation was not related to your performance).

Now that you got the offer, you should be evaluated just based on your performance. In the unlikely case they ask about it, you can share what you wrote here as the reason (economic situation).

Don't worry.

The Tier 1 will have no idea about the prior company.

Do not carry this with you. This is a new internship and a new opportunity.

Three things to keep in mind:

1. The pipeline is tough right now so the return offer might not be reflective of you
2. Internships are tricky and very dependent on the boss/project you get
3. Learn from the past one. See what you can do better

You might want to consider coaching, given the past experience, to make sure you get a return offer from this MBB firm….they're paying you during the internship…why risk your whole future/career when you could use some of those funds for coaching?

the MBB firm already signed you up for an internship from what it sounds like. They will base their decision on whether to extend a return offer based on how you perform there (plus the economic situation you are already familiar with).

During interviews, an interviewer might ask about why you are not simply returning to a company you interned with. But that's about it plus you are already past that stage.

In practice, I'm 99% sure they won't ask about it, so it's a non-problem. 

Then, MBB will decide whether to extend you an offer as a consequence of your performance during the internship, not on whether other companies want you.

I don't think it will affect your chances of getting a return offer at MBB much, since you already have an internship you will be doing there. The likelihood of you being given a return offer at MBB will now pretty much fully depend on your performance during your internship. Just in case, I would prepare a good answer in case anyone asks about your experience/lack of return offer at the Tier 2. I think the story you wrote here (you got good feedback from the EM, but they weren't hiring full-time due to the economic conditions) works well to share if you are asked about it. 

You already have an internship offer. They will only consider your work performance there - no reason to consider your performance in previous firms.

Absolutely not - a return offer from a place you wouldn't want to return to is useless anyway. In addition, the lack of a return offer was not due to performance (meaning that you likely did learn from this experience). Employers don't care about (and there wouldn't be a reason to bring up) return offers from other firms. Congrats on the MBB internship!
