Hi all, I'm curious whether MBB and tier 2 consulting firms are still recruiting “experienced hires” in Hong Kong / Singapore? What are ways to find out whether the firms are still hiring (would you recommend to directly contact the HR on Linkedin)? Any insights would be much appreciated!
Current experienced hiring at consulting firms
Hi there,
Unfortunately, there is no reliable way of knowing which ones are still hiring. Plus, these things change rather fast, even from one day to the other.
My suggestion would be to just apply to your preferred office, since whether or not they are still processing applications is outside of your control. The other important thing to consider is applying broadly in order to diversify your risk - I've explained this in more detail in the article below:
Best,
Cristian
Dear candidate,
Since these are not necessarily the largest offices, the number of candidates might be limited. Therefore I would generally suggest you try to get a referral and familiar with the firm before applying. There are great referral strategies with which you can achieve that. But well done, your goal generally seems achievable as long as you are flexible.
Best regards,
Hi there,
MY understanding is that there is still some hiring happening, but I am not 100% sure.
Please go out and network! This is the way to find out! It's also 2 birds one stone as networkign will increase your odds of being invited to interview as well.
Remember, HR is notoriously bad at responding (makes sense as they are spammed), but reach out to other consultants at those offices expressing your interest and looking to have a chat.
There's many wrong ways to do this and a few right ways. Feel free to reach out for support on how to network optimally!
Hi,
Some firms (not all) are still hiring experienced hires. But this is typically for very specific practice areas - which means you need to have some sort of industry/domain expertise.
BCG tends to post these roles on LinkedIn - you can find those openings there even without reaching out to HR. That being said, you should still reach out to HR and see what they have to say.
All the best!
I can confirm from first-hand experience that top-tier consulting firms are recruiting experienced hires in the region.
Reaching-out to HR via LinkedIn is one option as you mentioned. Networking to see if you can get a referral is even better.
Singapore MBB offices are generally hiring selectively. A likely challenge would be to get the company to sponsor your work visa (assuming you need one).
Most of them still hire and apply for visas, but are selectively for candidates that match their immediate business needs. These typical would be specialist / experienced roles in industries where they have strong pipeline of projects. One way you can find out would be to reach out randomly via LinkedIn, a lot of them are fairly helpful.
Hello,
This is going to vary a lot by firm/region. My understanding is that there is still some hiring happening for experienced candidates, but often the firms are looking for experts within a certain niche. The best way to figure this out would be to (1) comb through LinkedIn for openings; (2) go beyond that and network by reaching out to HR and/or consultants in the practices you would be interested in working in.
For this one, I suggest you approach HR directly.
