BCG Offer Letter Signed, Should I Resign?

I received my BCG offer letter on the 15th of Jan and signed it on the 16th of Jan. The offer letter stated that I will know my commencement date after I sign the offer letter. I understand that there should be an employment contract to follow from an offer letter (please correct me).

My question is, since I need a 1 month notice to quit from my current job, should I resign now or wait until BCG makes me sign the employment contract?

Hello,

I would say it’s best to wait until you have signed the formal employment contract before resigning from your current job. While the offer letter is a strong indication of BCG’s intent to hire you, the employment contract will provide final confirmation, including your start date and terms of employment.

Given that it’s early in the year, there might be delays as people return from the holidays and operations gradually resume. Resigning prematurely could leave you in a vulnerable position if there are any unforeseen delays or changes.

Once you’ve signed the employment contract and have clarity on your commencement date, you can confidently provide your notice period. It’s always better to play it safe.

Let me know if you need any further help!

Best,
Evelina

Hi,

It depends on you when you want to resign on your current employment.

I would propose to only resign on your current employment till you know the exact commencement date by signing the employment contract with BCG.

You can always reach out to BCG to clarify the next steps and commencement date.

Let me know if you need further help.

Hey, congrats on the BCG offer!

Agree with other respondents here: it´s better to resign only after you have your employment contract signed with the exact starting date indicated.

In my experience there could be some delays with the starting date and it's quite normal for management consulting firms.

Good luck!

Hey!

It's best to wait until you receive the official employment contract from BCG before resigning. The offer letter is a great step, but the contract will confirm all terms, including your start date. You can also follow up with HR to ask about the timeline for the contract to help plan your resignation accordingly. Let me know if you need any advice!

Hi there,

Congratulations on the offer! Regarding your question:

Q: Since I need a 1 month notice to quit from my current job, should I resign now or wait until BCG makes me sign the employment contract?

Given you still don’t know when you will start at BCG, it makes more sense that you wait until you have a contract with a clear starting date before resigning.

Best,

Francesco

Hey there,

I'd first confirm when your start date at BCG would be, as sometimes firms do a 'staggered batch' start date system where you could be starting with a cohort of other consultants months down the line. Then in this case you may end up missing some financial payments if you resign too early.

So I recommend following up with recruiting / HR to see when the contract is likely to come or when your start date is - and then plan your resignation from there

All the best
