Hi everyone. Completed my final round BCG interview on Thursday but have not received any results. The recruiter is on leave (will resume work next Monday). Does that mean that I will only hear back earliest on Monday when the interviewer and recruiter reconvene? (P.S. I only had 1 interview in the decision round with an MDP)

Thanks!

Hi there,

Yes, most likely after that date.

This timeline is totally normal, so don't read too much into it.

Best,

Cristian

Hello!

You'll most probably hear from them when the recruiter is back.

I know it is very stressful, I have been in your position recently, but try to relax and mentally prepare not to hear back from them for the next 10 days. Otherwise, you'll be stressed every day, waiting for a reply that -most probably- is not going to come before then.

Wish you the best! Maybe you can let us know how it went :)

Hi there,

I think this is an interesting question that may be relevant for many people. I would be happy to share my thoughts on it:

  • It's possible that you will only hear back on Monday when the recruiter returns to work. However, it's also possible that the interviewer will make a decision and notify the recruiter, who will then notify you, before Monday. It's difficult to say for certain without more information.
  • Regarding the "good luck for the process" comment from your interviewer, it could be interpreted in a few ways. It could be a positive sign, indicating that your interviewer thinks you did well in the interview and is wishing you luck with the final steps. However, it could also be a neutral comment and not mean anything about your performance in the interview. Again, it's hard to say exactly what it means without more context.

If you would like a more detailed discussion on how to best prepare your upcoming career start in strategy consulting, please don't hesitate to contact me directly.

Best,

Hagen

Hi there,

1) The recruiter is on leave (will resume work next Monday). Does that mean that I will only hear back earliest on Monday when the interviewer and recruiter reconvene?

The truth is that we don’t know. Maybe the interviewer will call earlier, maybe not. Unfortunately that’s not in your control so the only thing you can do now is to wait.

2) Additionally, my interviewer mentioned “good luck for the process” at the end of the decision round. Does that mean anything?

I would not read anything into this.

Good luck!

Francesco

Hi there,

Please calm down.

You need to realize that at this point you have no control over the situation.

Move on, apply to other firms, keep networking, etc.

They'll get back to you when they make a decision. It should be Monday or it could be in 1 month.

Push the need to know away and focus on productive things…you'll know when you know…and no sooner!

Hey there,

1. That means nothing other than good luck with the outcome (which also depends on other facts than this interviewer's opinion)

2. Most of the time, the feedback and offer calls are actually made by consultants, not HR.

In this case, it is hard to tell when you will hear back. It could very well be today still or early next week.

In any case, I hope that you get positive news soon. Fingers crossed!

Hi there,

Are you referring to Thursday 26th or Thursday 19th?

  • If it's the 19th, I could understand your impatience and I would expect to hear by next week. If not, you might want to consider following up with your HR contact.
  • If it's the 26th, you should sit tight since not even one business day has passed! These things take some time since you're not the only one being interviewed and recruiting have a long backlog of applicants to go through and discuss to take decisions.

In general, it's common to hear between 2 days to 2 weeks after the interview. Sometimes sooner, sometimes later…

Keeping my fingers crossed for good news for when they call!

Best,

Moritz

Referring to the 26th, also do you think the interviewer responding to the thank you note is a (good or bad) sign? Just can't help overthinking :(

Interviewers usually do not tell you during the interview whether they recommend to let you pass or not. So the “good luck” comment is likely just a platitude in terms of politeness.

At the current stage, it is certainly understandable that you let the interview replay in your mind over and over again, trying to analyze whether you are going to get an offer. However, the truth is that you won't know until they tell you. This is usually discussed among the recruiter and the interviewers in a formal round. Scheduling conflicts might cause such a meeting to get postponed or delayed in some cases.

You should hear back by next week. If not, you can probably politely follow up with your recruiter regarding a status update.

Best of luck

While unlikely to hear before Monday, it may still happen (they just need to send a text, or have a short call…).

But it can also take a couple of weeks, for whatever reason. Don't try to micromanage the process and try to guess any underlying meaning (and “good luck for the process” has no meaning whatsoever).
