I just passed Goldman's resume screen and now I'm up next for their numerical and verbal reasoning tests. I read there’s negative marking (5 points for correct, −2 for wrong answers). After that, it’s a HireVue with 5-6 questions (30s prep, 2min responses), and then hopefully a Superday with 2-5 interviews. Has anyone done this full sequence recently? How did you allocate your prep time across all stages?
Realistic prep for Goldman online tests and HireVue

Hey 👋
Congrats on getting past the resume screen, that’s a great step already!
The Goldman online tests are very time-pressured, so focus on accuracy rather than guessing because of the negative marking, a skipped question is better than a random one. It’s worth doing a few SHL-style practice tests to get comfortable with the format and timing.
For the HireVue, have 4–5 short examples ready using the STAR method. Typical questions are “Why Goldman?”, “Why investment banking?” and a few situational ones.
If you’re short on time, put about 60 % of your prep into the tests and 40 % into HireVue practice. After that, start reviewing technicals for the Superday.
Hope it helps, good luck!

Hi,
Decision-making / strategy cases are usually fast, verbal, and about trade-offs. You get a problem, make quick judgments, argue pros and cons. Modeling cases tend to be deeper, often take-home, where you build or interpret a model (valuation, forecasts, sensitivities).
Here’s how they differ in structure:
- Strategy / decision case: you have less time, the focus is on structuring, choosing between options, and arguing your logic.
- Modeling case: more time, more numbers, more detail. You might build a 3-statement model or run valuation scenarios.
