Hello,

I had a written case at a Big4 consulting unit which included creating a PowerPoint presentation. It was kind of a first pitch for the CEO of the company to analyze the problem and give a recommendation as well as to convince him why he should hire the consulting company for the transformation project. There was an explicit question in “Why hiring the consulting company."

I structured the presentation as recommended (pyramid principle, so first the recommendation and then three supporting arguments) but failed in creating a slide / answering the question of why the CEO should hire the company.

My question is how should I design such a slide to provide the utility in hiring the consulting company?

I thought about to provide for example surveys or reports of independent companies which rated the consulting company very high / the best.

Thank you in advance.

Regards

Hey,

Not sure what details were shared in the case prompt, but following would be some areas to cover in that Why Hire Firm X slide:

  • Prior experience & relationship with the CEO and his team i.e firm X knows this client well
  • Deep experience doing similar type work for other clients in other industries- proven experience & credentials
  • Industry rankings/ratings- pull out some research from internet (Gartner, FT etc)
  • Talk about any tools, apps, assets etc that can be used to speed up the work & drive value quicker
  • Skin in the game- willing to invest some $$ at risk for this work
  • Innovation & co-creation: test, improve and scale

Thank you Adi! I forgot to mention that it was about a cloud transformation project. There have not been many more informations about that in the case. There was just the question why should the CEO hire the consulting company.

Ok so you can still go with the list I suggested. Its okay to make assumptions in such written cases. And I know which of the BIG4 this could be, so its okay :).

Hi there,

Generally it would have any of the following things:

  1. Expertise - we have people who know what they're doing
  2. History - we've worked on similar things and have seen it all
    1. Includes projects/topics (either examples or #s)
    2. Includes clients (either examples or #s)
  3. Brand/reputation - we are the best
  4. Thought leader - we have numerous publications, presentations, etc. where we push thinking in this area
