Hello! I am a new MBA hire at a T2 /T3 Consulting firm in MEA and an MBB recruiter reached out to me for a quick chat and recruitment opportunities in the region.

I also had a 1:1 chat with one of the consultants and i remember her making notes and asking me questions on why MEA etc

I am excited about the chat and I would like to know if this is a good sign and what do I best prepare for the call.

It's absolutely a good sign.

It means that they find your profile interesting, so they would want to understand whether you're interested in joining them before they kick off the official recruitment process.

This first call is not evaluative.

They want to understand your background and whether the role would be suitable. You should also be asking questions about the role and how to approach the application process.

This is a screening call, i.e., making sure you know what you are applying to, validate your motivation, and validate whether your experience is the right one and aligned with the rank where they have a vacancy. But they are not evaluation fit nor asking behavioral/personal experience type of questions.

Basicaly be prepared to explain your motivation, what you are looking for, and your experience.

Hi,

the recruiter probably saw your profile on LinkedIn or so which matched what they are looking for at first glance and now wants to validate whether it might be a general fit. The call will likely center around them telling you about the company and the roles they are recruiting for and trying to learn more about your background/experience and personal interests. If afterwards both sides are still interested, the official recruiting process would start.

Hi there,

Q: An MBB recruiter reached out to me for a quick chat and recruitment opportunities in the region. I am excited about the chat and I would like to know if this is a good sign and what do I best prepare for the call.

Yes, it is a good sign.

Normally these calls aim to understand your motivation with fit questions and/or provide information on the process/position to be sure you are aligned. Common fit questions include:

  • Tell me about yourself
  • Why consulting
  • Why us
  • Why should we hire you

Good luck!

Francesco

Hi there,

This is definitely great news. I would try to do a bit more research in terms of what they are known for in the region in terms of the type of projects, industries etc. When you take to them, tell them about project experiences that could be relevant for them. On top of that, I'd assume you will also prepare the why questions (why ME, why them etc.) Hope all works well for you and best of luck.

Cheers,

David
