Hi everyone,

I am currently preparing for the BCG Real Life interviews. I was wondering which methods / structures you would usually apply in this kind of interview to persuade a colleague / client / … to agree with you on your opinion / project / …?

Many thanks in advance

haha this is very broad topic and it depends on the situation and stakeholders, but ideally by:

1. understanding the other side situation, pain points and areas for improvements

2. collaboration

3. Securing buy in by very tailored conversations and discussions.

Feel free to reach out for help, I am top BCG trainer and I can help with that.

Remember the ethos-pathos-logos of the wise greek rethoric masters.

In general, to convince someone, it is not sufficient to have the facts or logic right.

You first need to build rapport - you need to (really) listen and show you understand and care about the other person's concerns (ethos).

You may also need to appeal to a person's values or to a vision of common good in order to align them on the same objective. (pathos).

Only afterwards that you can use reason / facts / logic to convince someone (logos).

Hi there,

Have a look at the McKinsey PEI article under the dimension Personal Impact: https://www.preplounge.com/mckinsey-pei

It covers the exact same situation as the BCG Real Life story.

Cheers,

Florian

Hi there,

It completely depends on the situation!

Remember the classic Greek modes of persuasion: Pathos, Ethos, Logos :)
