Hi,

I just got an offer from MBB US and I am an international student. In my previous employment, my title was vague and unfamiliar for US market so I added a descriptive title together with my organization's title in parentheses.

Will it cause any problem during the background check?

First of all, congrats on the offer - well done!

Once you received an offer (and I assume you would like to accept it) it shows that the company wants you to work for them. With this attitude, all you need to do is to communicate and work with them to clear any formal obstacles on the way.

I suggest being in close contact with the recruitment staff and even proactively offering explanations regarding the credibility of your background. I would be surprised if they started to make things difficult at this stage.

Best of luck,

Slawomir

No issues at all! This happens all the time and is an appropriate thing to do as long as the description corresponds to the real title.

Where this can become problematic is where people start messing around with seniority and magically went from Intern to Director.

Hope this helps! Best of luck!

Hi there,

You should be totally ok here! As long as you didn't grossly embellish/make up things this all sounds reasonable.

Deep breaths, you should be just fine!

No problem at all, what you did seems actually quite transparent. Of course, if there's any question they will reach out to you, but honestly I don't see why that would be an issue.

No problem at all. Should they come back for any clarifications, you can always explain easily.

Congrats.

Hello!

Background checks are nothing to be worried about, as long as you haven´t lied (e.g., saying that you graduated from Uni X when you didn´t, or that you worked in Company Y 2 years instead of 6 months). Minor things, such as 1 month differences, etc. don´t matter.

Most of the times, they are done by 3rd party companies to which the job is externalized. If they find any discrepancy, they contact you first and clarify it with you.

For instance, with the MIT background check I had the issue that the external name of my Amazon job is not the same as the one Amazon uses internally -and that was the name given in the certificated that Amazon gives oficially-. It was easily solved by an HR doc that explained that both were the same thing.

Hope it helps!

Cheers,

Clara
