I just realized I didn't submit my updated resume (format-wise, it's way better than the submitted one), and I cannot edit it on the portal. Shall I email the HR the new updated version and tell them that I submitted the wrong version? or would it be a red flag and they won't consider it?

PS: Application is still pending - didn't get an answer for CV screening yet.

Hi there,

so it depends on when you submitted the previous CV and the extent to which the HR team is responsive and willing to help.

  • If you send an updated CV one week after your application, then it could raise some questions as to whether you fixed typos or mistakes in the meantime.
  • Nevertheless, you could try to give a call to the HR partners. Ultimately you have nothing to lose and getting rejected at this stage would result in at least a one-year ban. If the HR partners seem engaged and willing to help, you can always nicely ask for them to replace the CV with the new one attached. However, if they are not cooperative, you could consider withdrawing your application and re-applying
  • If you have a referral, you could ask your contact to “pass along” to the HR partners the updated version of the documents.

I hope this helps and wish you the best of luck!

Best,

Margot

Hi there,

When did you submit?

If it was just a day or two ago, you can quickly reach out to the recruiter/HR as well as your referrer to change it.

If it has been a week plus then that's not ideal (you can still reach out though)

It depends on how big of a difference there is between the two resumes…

Hi there!

No, it's absolutely not a red flag. If anything, it's just mildly annoying for them.

If you genuinely feel like the new version is an upgrade that could increase your chances of passing screening, by all means, email them.

If it's just formatting changes, I'd drop it. Use the revised version then for your application to other firms.

Best,
Cristian

Hi there,

If the new CV is much better than the originally submitted one, I would reach out to HR (no need to mention you uploaded the wrong version – just mention that you have an updated one).

Good luck!

Francesco
