Re-recruiting MBB full time

I applied last summer to an MBB consultant internship and made it to the last round, but I didn't get it. I was feeling discouraged at the time so I didn't ask for feedback from my interviewers, but I decided I wanted to give it another go for full time.

I realize it would have been better to ask feedback/connect throughout the months, but do any of you know if it's possible, for example, to connect with the mentors the company assigned me to from the last interview process now? Also, is feedback kept in the system so I could potentially ask my recruiter about it or is that not the case? Appreciate the advice in advance.

Hey!

Although it is understandable that you were feeling discouraged and probably wanted to clear your mind of the recruiting process after not passing, this is the single most important piece of information you could've had, especially if you got a no on the final round.

I would try to connect with the mentors, HR and also the people who interviewed you. Hopefully, they still remember you and will give you a couple of hints. HR should have access to your formal evaluation but might not be willing to provide you with the brief, as usually that is the interviewer's role.

Best of luck re-applying, I'm sure you've developed in the meantime and will get the final step :)

Hi,

I really understand you were feeling discouraged and did not asked feedback. You can indeed reach out to your interviewer at that time and ask feedback in a more informal way. Another option is to ask your buddy that will be assigned before the first interview.

Good luck with your preparation.

Hi,

I hear you - don't give up!

  • Can you reach out? Yes, you can still reach out to mentors from your previous process; just be polite, acknowledge the time gap, and express genuine interest in reconnecting.
  • Feedback: Feedback is often kept in the system for a year or more, so you can ask your recruiter if they’re able to share any insights from your last interviews.

It’s a good move to re-engage now. Best of luck!

Yes, you can contact your mentors again.

But let me be clear about this. More frequently than not the feedback you get is highly generic and not very useful. Because they want you to have a good experience, they want to be polite, and they also want to avoid any HR litigation risk. So they will be generic, and will hardly give you any real "tough" feedback.

Your own perception of the interview and your weak spots is usually more valuable.

Of course, you may discover a blind spot, so go for it and ask them.

In any case, nothing beats a detailed diagnostic from an experienced interviewer (i.e., experienced coach), if you know what I mean. This is where you will hear the hard truths... and how to improve on them.
