McKinsey Solve Time Slots

Hi all

I received an invitation to complete a McKinsey Solve test as part of my application for a program of theirs.

When I opened my link I was asked to pick a time for the Solve test.

My question is, am I supposed to finish my McKinsey Solve before that time or am I expected to start at that time only?

I am confused as I have the option to start it now even though my slot is tomorrow.

I am afraid it will be the case that I wait till my time slot and then find out I was supposed to have started/completed it by that time slot?

Please do let me know

Thanks!

Hi Joseph,

First of all, congratulations on the invitation from McKinsey!

I would be happy to share my thoughts on your question:

  • Contrary to what other coaches have said, the time slot you selected is when you are expected to start the McKinsey Solve pre-interview assessment, not finish it. It’s like a scheduled appointment - once that time arrives, you can launch the McKinsey Solve.

You can find more on this topic here: How to succeed in the final interview round.

If you would like a more detailed discussion on how to best prepare for your upcoming McKinsey pre-interview assessment and/or interviews, please don't hesitate to contact me directly.

Best,

Hagen

Hey there,

You would start the Solve game in the time slot given. That said, I do know candidates have used this as an "end date" time, and completed it before. BUt ideally it was designed for you to do at the specific chosen time.

A general good principle for questions like this is to clarify these types of questions with McKinsey's recruiting team :-)

All the best!

Thanks for the clarification! And yes I have contacted recruiting as well, I hadn't received a response so I figured I'd ask here as well 😅 Thanks again

You are supposed to log in at the time indicated in the time slot to start the test. If they also offer to complete the test beforehand, it is up to you to decide whether to do so or not.

Good luck!

Hey Francesco thanks so much, I ended up doing it earlier as I felt I had prepared and practiced enough.

Hi there,

If it's a slot it's meant to be conducted during that slot.

All the best,

You’re expected to start the McKinsey Solve test at the scheduled time, not complete it before. If you've booked a slot for tomorrow, wait until then to begin. The option to start now is likely just system flexibility — stick to your selected time to be safe. Good luck!

Hey Joseph,

You're expected to start the test at your chosen time slot — no need to finish it before then. If the system lets you start earlier, it’s likely just unlocked, but it's best to follow the scheduled slot.

Feel free to message me if you’re unsure or want coaching support for Solve!

Best regards,
Alessa
