I applied to one of the MBBs a few years ago and received an invite for an interview at the same office within 5 days.
However, this time I submitted my application three weeks ago (no deadline, rolling), and it is still under review. Could it be that my application has been rejected, and they simply forgot to communicate it, considering the longer waiting time? I'd appreciate any insights.
MBB: No invite after 3 weeks, is it done?

Hello there,
It is probably in the firm’s pipeline to be evaluated. MBB are pretty clear when one is rejected. Feel free to reach out to HR.
Good luck!
Best,
Mari

Hey there,
Recruiting turnaround times (even with the same firm in the same location) can vary across different times of the year. Currently, the timelines you've received are not uncommonly seen during this time. In worse scenarios, it can even go up to 2-3 months, so don't read too much into it beyond it just being a delayed response vs what you were expecting. You will eventually get your feedback / response
Otherwise, you could feel free to reach out to recruiting for feedback or status update on your application.
All the best!

hey!
Three weeks without a response doesn’t necessarily mean a rejection, especially on a rolling basis, but it's a fair point of concern. It could be a backlog, office-specific timing, or internal coordination delays. That said, if you haven’t heard back after three weeks, it’s reasonable to send a polite follow-up email to the recruiting team asking for a status update. It shows interest without being pushy.

I have had a student who got an application call 8-months after submission. So anything is possible. If they want to reject you, they will send you a rejection mail. Meanwhile, it would be best to politely follow-up - to ensure that your application is not forgotten - it might still be in the queue and recruiting might not be processing them as voraciously at present due to different recruiting priorities.

Hi there,
Q: Could it be that my application has been rejected, and they simply forgot to communicate it, considering the longer waiting time?
Usually, at MBB, they always communicate the outcome, regardless of whether or not they reject you.
A few weeks of delay is not necessarily unusual. Given that a few weeks have passed, if you want, you can follow up with HR and ask for an update.
Good luck!

Hi there,
Three weeks isn’t necessarily a bad sign, especially with rolling applications. MBB recruiting timelines can vary based on office capacity, workload, and candidate volume. It’s possible your application is still being considered, but if you’re concerned, a polite follow-up email to the recruiter can help you get some clarity. Stay positive – sometimes no news is good news!
